The Three Broomsticks was a buzz of activity. There were students laughing in groups as they drank butterbeer, and the regulars who sat at the bar were chatting to Madam Rosmerta. Even though I enjoyed the job, the hours seemed to crawl by as I thought about everyone getting ready for the Ravenclaw party. What I would give to have both my parents alive, and enough money to not have to work while still in school. Instead here I am, sat in a bar serving drinks and cleaning tables to keep myself going.
"I'll take another one when you've stopped daydreaming." A voice caught my attention, and a figure sat with a cloak pulled tightly over his head handed me his empty glass. I refilled it and as I handed it back to him, the sleeve of his cloak fell and I saw the dark mark on his arm. It all clicked together as he lifted his head and I saw his eyes. I know those eyes, those eyes that stared at me, full of pure evil as he killed my mother.
"Nott."
He pulled his hood down and there he was. Theodore Nott. This was the first time I'd seen him since the battle. He looked older, several scars on his face reminded me of that night, the night he handed me over to Voldemort, the reason I had the dark mark that matched his. My body filled with rage as I looked at him, staring him dead in the eyes.
"Good evening Greenwood."
"What are you doing here"
"The last time I checked, this is a pub anyone can come to, I was simply having a drink....or 5."
"Did you know I worked here?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows."
I turned away from him, determined to keep my conversation with him as short as possible, the anger bubbling up inside of me.
"Why didn't you make me go to Azkaban Greenwood, you could have me locked up for life, I'm sure that's exactly what Malfoy wanted, he'd have killed me if he had the chance."
"Because that's easy. You wouldn't have to try and move on without your precious dark lord, you would have just sat, in a cell for the rest of your life. The hardest thing to do is to try and move on with your life with everyone knowing what you did. I hardly doubt anyone would employ you after what happened."
"You know one of the conditions to me being allowed to finish my last year was that I wasn't allowed to be anywhere on school grounds outside of my lessons. Not even the dorms."
"So where are you living then?"
"Above Zonko's."
"How nice for you."
"Here, I have something for you." He pulled an envelope out of his cloak and handed it to me. I didn't take it at first, but he insisted. Opening it I saw more galleons than I'd ever seen in my life.
"Should be enough in there to keep you going for a while."
"I don't want your blood money Nott."
"Please take it. As an apology."
"You can't buy my forgiveness."
"Then just take it. I don't need it." He stood up and left without another word, leaving me holding the envelope.
The pub soon closed and I headed back to Hogwarts. As I reached Gryffindor tower I stuffed the envelope at the very bottom of my trunk and grabbed my dress, slipping it on. I was meeting the others down at the Slytherin common room, who would no doubt already be half drunk so I grabbed a bottle of fire whiskey from under my bed and took a quick drink.
"You're letting me borrow that dress Greenwood!" Was the first thing Pansy said as I walked in. She was wearing the black lace dress she tried on earlier and a half empty bottle was in her hand.
"Here, you're way too sober for my liking" she handed me the rest of the bottle and I drank it in one gulp, my throat burning.
"Jesus christ" Draco emerged from the dorm holding a glass of fire whiskey. He stopped when he saw me, looking me up and down, biting his lip softly.
"You're welcome" was all I could say as I looked at him, dressed in a white shirt with the top buttons undone.
"Now where have I seen that dress before?" He said as he snaked an arm around my waist, draining his drink.
"Hmmmm I don't know, Yule Ball maybe?" I said, smirking up at him.
My first year at Hogwarts Draco had brought me a dress for the Yule Ball, it was emerald green, silk and tight in all the right places. It still fit me like a glove after all these years.
"I didn't think you could look any better in it but Jesus Christ you look beautiful" he whispered in my ear as he placed a kiss on my forehead.
"She looks just like a Slytherin!" Pansy said, grabbing another bottle out from a cupboard in the corner of the room.
"The Slytherin Prince and the Gryffindor Princess....are you ready to party or what?" Blaise came out of the dorms, and led the way to the Ravenclaw common room.
"So how do we get in?" Pansy asked as she knocked loudly on the door. A voice came from it.
"This 5 letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it. What is the word?"
"You're kidding me right? How are we supposed to know that?" Draco rolled his eyes as he ran a hand through his hair, annoyed.
"Short." Blaise said and the door opened.
"Didn't know you were smart Blaise" Draco said and he laced his fingers with mine.
"Let's go dance."
