After a long night of physicaly and mentally taxing practice, Y/N decided she'd sleep in that day instead of waking up at 5 in the morning as usual. However that plan soon got discredited by a knock on the door and a tall scruff looking man barging into her room.
"Y/N I need a word. Oh, I'm sorry. You're still in bed. How are you still in bed? It's like 6.30, are you feeling well?" Tony walked over to her bedside, laying a hand on her forehead that soon got swatted away. Where as Tony had an erratic sleeping schedule, Y/N rather liked the structure of an early riser. She did her best thinking in the morning though some would think that to be a bit boring. "We were up until 2 last night. I couldn't get myself out of bed." she groaned, holding up her hand to block out the light Tony so kindly had turned on. He sat himself down next to her with a pensive look to him. She sat up more, her hair sticking out in different directions and varying between straight and curly in some parts. Tony didn't often see her like this anymore. These past few years she had acted like a well put together lady who ... , well, she acted kind of like Pepper. She looked up to her and she was almost like a mother figure. Her nannies never stuck around long enough for a bond to grow, but Pepper had been there for many years already. Even when Tony wasn't.
Seeing her like this, in her organised yet at the same time messy room, reminded him that she was still a teenager. A strong-willed and responsible one, but also one that needed to find her path in life. And maybe even make her own mistakes without him trying to protect her all the time.
He laid down a pair of leather gloves next to her on the bed, a small smile on his face. "I'll allow you to go to that party, if you are careful." he nodded. A huge grin found it's way onto her face as she now held the gloves in her hands. "I talked to Bruce. He told me you did very well yesterday. I don't think it's enough to completely control your abilities but I do know that you are serious about this. I just don't want anything bad to happen to you." Tony confessed, the corner of his lips still turned upward but his eyes held a mix of sadness and concern. "Thank you uncle. I promise I will be careful." she wrapped her arms around his middle as he wrapped one around her shoulder, leaning his back against the headboard. The kiss he left on her forehead making her smile widen.
"You might not be my real dad, but you're the best one I could have hoped for." she admitted. There were times she hated him for having her live with nanny after nanny but she could never really blame him. As she grew older she came to realize that that was his way of giving her the best life he could give her.
"Let's not get sappy now sparkle." he chuckled yet hugged her closer.
"Says the one that's been calling me sparkle my entire life." she giggled.
He smiled to himself, knowing he loved these moments with her. "I wouldn't mind you calling me that all the time, ya know." He mumbled, another peck planted to her forehead. She didn't answer, just smiled and hugged him closer. They both knew that maybe that wasn't all that weird to think about. He soon left her to get dressed and ready to tackle the day.
She went to make her bed after getting dressed when she noticed the gloves again. She held them in her hands, inspecting the sleek black leather as the wheels in her head turned. She rushed downstairs, skipping past the kitchen and going straight to the workshop to realize her idea if even just a little. She used Tony's equipment as she always did and tinkered away for a few hours until Tony came to call her upstairs. But as he saw her focused expression he decided to find out what she was working on first. he took a small watch into his hand, it didn't tell the time however.
"What is it?" he wondered. It didn't look anything like the blueprint she had on screen.
"It's an old prototype of mine. Made it when I was bored and didn't really do much with it until now." She put it on to show him. The watch formed as a glove around her hand, up to her elbow, while the watch face stayed in place. "I made it so I could easily shape it with my powers. It's basically a collection of very small beads so I don't actually have to manipulate the atoms themselves, just the beads. But I was thinking, if I could make this work without using my powers, with a type of matter I can not control, I could make a damage control suit right on my wrist." She showed him her concept, having already brainstormed about a few."So you're thinking nanotech? Something Stark industries has been working on for years and you decided to make it because you were bored a while back." Tony asked, looking through her notes, doodles and digital concept. "Seems like who'ever runs that place needs to step up their game." Y/N poked but nodded for him to go on, hoping for some input. "Haha, very funny." He stopped at a particular screen. scanning it over as it peaked his interest. "You want to use vibranium."
"It is the most complex material on earth, and you did say T'Challa had it sown into his suit. Problem is, I have no idea how to even start getting it to work." She sighed. She wasn't wrong, it was a difficult thing to realise, even he had tried in the past and hadn't gotten it to work properly yet. "I might know someone who can help you, but for now, go and get ready for school. Don't want to miss that now do you." He smiled, urging her to go and get ready "Thanks," she smiled at him "dad". She got up and headed to the kitchen, leaving Tony in the workshop, smiling to himself.
