They went back to each their own classroom. As she got to hers she noticed an empty seat beside hers. "Where's Peter?" She whispered to MJ who always sat behind her.
"I thought he was with you." She whispered back, bringing a frown to her face.
"No, I was with James." she whispered back as the teacher called for attention and started the class. Leaving them both worried.
She didn't see him again that afternoon, and when she came home everyone was at the Avengers facility apart from him, so it hadn't been a mission.
"Maybe he's just being friendly neighborhood spiderman." she mumbled to herself, standing on top of the roof they would usually meet on. In a way hoping he would just appear.
"Dad?" she called when she got back inside, walking up to him in the lab. "Could you give me Peter's address, I need to drop something off from school." She blatantly lied as not long after, she was suited up and making her way through his window through the fire escape. Not really thinking, just determined to see him. "Peter we need to talk." Her voice sounded a bit muffled from behind her mask. She was about to take it off but was shocked by what she saw when she turned toward him. Ned stood shocked before her, staring at the suited girl.
"Uhm, hi." She said nervously, her voice going an octave higher. She was almost gratefully for her voice breaking, thinking it would help as to not recognize her.
"uhm, hello, I'm ..." Ned didn't know what to say, she didn't blame him, so Peter butted in.
"Indi!" He said a bit too loud "This is Ned. Ned, this is Indigo. She's, uhm, a friend.""Hello." "Hi" they both said again, not moving from their respective spots.
"You're friends with spiderman AND Indigo? Man, you have got to tell me where you hang out in your free time." He muttered to Peter, loud enough for her to hear. "Stark internship remember." He whispered back."I should go." She said, awkwardly interrupting them, pointing back to the window. But Ned stopped her. "No, you guys uhm, I was just leaving." He said, already making his way to the door. "It was nice meeting you." He smiled "You too."
Peter walked him out and as soon as the door of his room closed, the mutters started over again.
"Dude, that's the girl you were talking about a while back?!" Ned whisper-yelled behind the closed door. She couldn't hear Peter answer before Ned spoke again. "Dude, she works with spiderman. And you say I go for girls out of my league."
"You have no idea." Peter chucked, the comment making her giggle silently as well. She could hear them mumble back and forth but couldn't understand them as they made their way to the front door. When he got back to his room, he was met with a very amused Indi.
"So, I'm out of your league huh." She grinned as he walked back in, removing her mask seeing he was alone. "Yeah." he said with a deep breath. She walked closer to him with a teasing smile, never having felt this confident. "But not out of spiderman's league." she poked, now standing close enough to see his face clearly.
He smiled at her but it didn't seem happy or amused, it seemed sad. This had been quite the day of troubled boys, she thought to herself. "You shouldn't be here." he stated.
"Peter, what's wrong?" she took another step closer to him, yet he took one back. She knew whatever happened with James was to blame, but she wanted to hear it from him.
"James is right." He sighed, looking up from his feet "You were still in there because of me, and I didn't even help you." he sounded so sincere, so sure of his words. He had blamed himself since that day and hadn't stop doing so since. He told himself he stuck around her because that's what Tony had demanded of him, but in reality, he worried just as much.
"Peter, stop this." She took another step, but this time was able to take his hands in hers. "You know you're not to blame. It was just an accident, and I am completely fine now. Nobody blames you, but you." She rested her forehead against his and she could feel him calm down a little, showing just how tense he had been. "I don't want you to push me away." their eyes met again, this time not letting go of their gaze. "I want you with me."
She didn't lean in this time, she waited for him to make his decision. She could see a plethora of thoughts and emotions running through his eyes. Worry being the most prominent one, and she started to mimic this feeling as he didn't speak, didn't move. "Peter?"
Her voice could make any of his worries melt away. He wanted so bad to stay away from her, so she would be safe, but at the same time, he knew he never could. Without wasting another second, he kissed her. His hands left hers, trailing up to her hips and guiding her closer to him. The feeling of his surprisingly muscular body against hers as his arms wrapped around her felt excitingly foreign yet so homely. As if it were the way they were supposed to be. Her hands weaved through his curls and with every second the kiss lasted, with every touch of her against his skin, his doubts and worries faded from his chest.
They broke away, her body still tingling from his touch. "You know," She started after a moment of bathing in the soft silence "It's nicer kissing you knowing what you look like" They both chuckled, the vibrations of his chest sending a shiver down her spine. They stood there a while longer, talking in hushed tones, not letting go of each other for as long as they didn't have to.
