Having let Tony know that she would be home later the next day, Y/N met up with James after school. "So, where are we going?" She wondered, adjusting the strap from her bag that held her books.

"You'll see. It's a surprise." He smiled down at her. He led her downtown to a vintage book shop. It seemed dark inside as if it were closed, yet the door opened with a mere push of James' hand. the walls were covered with bookshelves filled to the brim, in the middle stood seats and tables and a simple but elegant counter with a cash register. "Wait here." he smiled, letting her sit on one of the chairs and walking to the back of the shop. He returned, led by a woman who looked barely past her 30's yet she was sickly white. Every inch of her body was covered in clothing apart from her face which looked almost abnormally beautiful if you looked past her sickly color.

"Hello, Y/N." She smiled kindly, sitting down beside her at the table, turned toward her slightly.

"Hello, nice to meet you, uhm" she looked over at James who stood silently beside them, almost in a trance. "Oh, how ill-mannered of me." The woman snapped Y/N's attention back to her, laying her hand closer to her on the table, not yet touching her. "I'm your mother." she stated simply as if it were the normal thing to say in the situation. Y/N's eyebrows knotted into a frown.

"I might not have seen my mother in a long time, but I still remember her vividly. You are not my mother." Her voice dripped with venom, knowing exactly what the woman meant. Yes, she wanted to find out more about who she was and where she came from. But just being in the woman's presence made her blood boil without good reason.

"Oh, no silly. That spinster was only your caretaker. A means to get you ready to meet me." She smiled, her voice sounded so kind and she truly seemed delighted, making the meaning behind her words difficult to process.

"You don't have the right the call her that. In fact, you don't have the right to waltz into my life like this, acting as if you own me just because you gave birth to me." Y/N stood from her seat with haste but got immediately pushed down again by none other than James. Yet his face was unmoved, stoic, not even glancing her way.

"Calm down dear. It's time you learned a thing or two." the woman's demeanor changed slowly. Y/N noticed the skin on her face changing color constantly in such a subtle manner that it was almost unnoticeable. "This world has wronged us in so many ways and it's time to set things right." The woman stood from her seat, getting closer and bending to her level.

"It's time to come home, Y/N." she whispered, her hand now on Y/N's shoulder, and as she softly placed it there, a light zap could be felt. It wasn't painful, yet she started to feel uneasy and almost dizzy. She couldn't see much further than the woman's unnerving face and in mere seconds her head made contact with the table with a loud thud.

After hours passed, Tony grew anxious as he hadn't heard from her. He had tried texting, calling, having Friday search every security camera in the area. But he was always left with radio silence.

The avengers grew weary of waiting for a sign, seeing Tony slowly go mad, and decided to go look for her before it went dark.

"I'll stay here." Natasha offered "in case she comes back." Tony nodded, grateful for everyone's help, and they all filed out of the building, all going their own way to look for the young girl that had grown to care much about.

Just a short one today, how you think it's going to end?
