Yet a third poem I rediscovered, written in 2019 for a concert at my old high school. I wrote it somewhere after "Anxious Aggression" and before "Darkest Hour", and just recently remembered it existed. In honor of the friends I made and the memories I left from the alternative school that welcomed me with open arms and helped me understand how to cope with emotions and thoughts. Thank you.
We are the "bad kids"
We are all the troublemakers
We are who was blamed when talking about how wrong the system is
Pulled out of our schools and placed into a program, we are categorized as "bad" when we are just damaged
Bright, kind, caring
We are the most gifted children you will ever have the privilege to meet
Less stress, positive environment, even if we have problems here or there we are the type to keep pushing through
Because we have to
We did not fail the system, the system failed us
A flawed outlook on student's minds, placing homework upon homework on our tenacious lives
You think we're bad?
Yeah well you're worse
Speaking with the mouth of an ass doesn't make you right, only wrong
Unchecked facts and poorly formed opinions spins webs of lies, further putting us behind
While kids at their home high schools are working their damndest to graduate, we are too TWICE as hard in fact
We are called the bad kids because of what you see on the outside
Yet the pressure that creates a gem is the process of making a diamond in the rough
So continue to degrade us and try to shame
But we are the bad kids
Do you think we'll stay to play your pity game?
