Poppy Carson pov:

August 31st. The day before we returned to Hogwarts. Considering I had missed the last term and a bit more, I was very behind on schoolwork.

"It's not like it matters," Draco told me, "Did I tell you Snape is the headmaster now? He's got a whole new lot of teachers. We won't learn anything between all the useless lectures and punishments."

I was still nervous. I was always an intelligent girl, scoring second to Hermione in most classes. She owled me yesterday saying their trio was leaving to go look for something. Again, I didn't ask what for. I couldn't deny I was curious, but I didn't want to pressure them.

We had written to Professor Mcgonagall around a week ago asking if Blaire could be enrolled at Hogwarts. We didn't have high hopes because Hogwarts rarely takes new students but she replied saying she would run it past Severus.

We got our reply this morning. Mcgonagall write that Blaire would be allowed in, as so many students parents had made them drop out of school, in fear something might happen. She also wrote that if we had any more queries that we needed to talk to Professor Snape as he is the new headmaster.

"I hate that he's the new headmaster. Mcgonagall deserves it more than him." I said, incredulous.

"He's not all bad. He tried to help me last year when I was... doing the task." Draco stated.

Blaise scoffed. "Out of pity. It was only because Cissy made the unbreakable vow. He would have died if he didn't help you. I don't trust him."

I nodded in agreement. Blaire was picking nervously at her nails. "Guys? What house do you think I'm going to be in?"

I was slightly taken aback by this question. I hadn't even thought about the fact she would have to be sorted. "Oh... erm. I don't know. You don't really know until you get there. Unless you're from a long line of one of the houses. What's your family like?"

"Erm. My mums really academic and fussy about my grades. I'm not exactly smart though. She's quite mean which rubbed off me I guess. My dad is alright. I don't see him much." She told us.

"I reckon you'll be in Slytherin with me and Draco. It's the best house." Blaise laughed at his own joke. I threw a pillow at him.

"I'm a Gryffindor. The houses are all great to be honest. Though with Snape as headmaster, i'd you're a Slytherin it'll make your life easier." I said, raising my eyebrows.

Blaise and Draco nodded in agreement. There was a long silence. Blaire luckily broke it. "So. What are the classes like?"

We talked for ages about school, explains everything you needed to know to Blaire. My nerves bubbled up at the thought of going back to Hogwarts but knowing I wasn't alone this year made me feel a sense of comfort.

Dinner that night was a special roast dinner made by Narcissa herself. She somehow made it so perfectly I never wanted the food to end.

"How's everyone feeling? Big day tomorrow! First day of your last year at school!" Narcissa said, clearing the plates away.

"It's quite nerve-wracking to be honest. I mean, with Snape being headmaster and all. He's bound to make some bad changes to the school." I say, biting the skin on my lips.

There was a short moment of silence. "Do you think there will be a war?" Draco says out of nowhere.

We all shared worried glances. Narcissa took a deep breath. "I- I think the chances are high. That- that there will be a war. Soon actually. I won't lie to you all. We need to be prepared at all times."
