At first I didn't know what to say. My mouth was hanging slightly open and I stared at him, emotionless.

I was so convinced he was different. Draco always said he didn't want to end up like his father. But now he's become one of them.

A death eater.

"Say something, Poppy. Please," his eyes were puffy and his cheeks were red.

"Why? How. I mean. I thought you were- I just thought you were different-". A million thoughts were processing in my brain. I couldn't seem to think.

"I was chosen. By the Dark Lord himself. I didn't want to be. Honest. But you can imagine how persuasive Voldemort can be. I regretted it as soon as I got the mark."

Draco rolled up his sleeve to reveal and neat tattoo of the Dark Mark. A sign of Death Eaters.

He carried on.

"One day it started burning. It was the worst pain I'd ever felt. The Dark Lord came to me. He gave me a mission."

Draco's eyes started to well up again so I placed my hand on his thigh and shifted closer to him.

"I need to kill Dumbledore. That's the mission. Or get rid of him somehow. And I need to fix a vanishing cabinet that's in the room of requirement." He looked down in shame at his hands.

"Hey. Look at me."

His cheeks were red and stained with tears as he locked eyes with mine.

"Obviously I don't support your task. But I," I took a deep breath, "I love you, Draco. And this isn't going to change my feelings for you."

Draco smiled through his tears. He chuckled and wiped his eyes.
"I love you too, Pops. I really do love you."

Draco pulled me in for a hug and squeezed me tightly. I could feel him smiling on my shoulder as I stroked my hands through his platinum blond hair.

"I love you."

The next month was terribly boring. We continued to stay at the manor, away from the 'dangers' of Hogwarts.

Narcissa was the nicest to me. Excluding Draco of course. Lucius gave me death stares half the time and Bellatrix just tormented me. I wanted to go back to Hogwarts.

Soon it started getting hotter, and Draco wasn't around as much. He kept disappearing to mend the cabinet at night and didn't return until the afternoon of the next day. I missed him terribly.

On a particularly hot day at the end of June I returned to the room of requirement to finally try and finish mending the cabinet. It was seeming impossible at the moment.

After hours of endless work, I finally finished it. That night after Poppy fell asleep, there was a death eater meeting. I hated them.

Poppy had fallen asleep on my chest earlier on. All I wanted to do was stay there forever. With her head on my chest, her hand interlocked with me.

But I can't.

Legs trembling, I walked down the glossy staircase to the Manor's dining room, where a long table of Death Eaters sat.

"Son. You're finally here I see." My father sneered, standing up and beckoning for me to sit in a chair opposite Yaxley.

"So, Draco? They cabinet? Is it done?" Bellatrix asked, her wide eyes crazed.

"Y-yes. It's done." I stammered.

"Brilliant, Draco. You've proven useful." Fenir Greyback applauded.

"Next week. That's when we'll go to Hogwarts. We shall meet at Borgin and Burks at 8pm." Lucius announced.

"Next week!" My mother piped up anxiously. "But that's so soon. Surely we should plan it out."

"There's no time for plans, Cissy. We're invading Hogwarts next week where Draco will finish his task. Where Draco will kill Dumbledore." Bellatrix hissed.

I gulped and fiddled with the steel rings on my thumbs, a lump in my throat.

"Draco. You have no need to be here anymore. You can go." My father snapped, waving me off.

Without hesitation, i jumped out of my seat and speed-walked back to bed to be with Poppy.

I threw on some black sweatpants and snuggled down next to Poppy as she stirred and woke from her deep sleep.

"You're back," she observed.

"Yeah. I finished the cabinet. I can stay with you now, Pops. I love you."

"I love you more," she responded, turning her head away and settling back down to sleep.

I awoke to the bright sunshine beaming through the large windows and Draco's arm on my waist.

I carefully removed myself from his grip and waddled downstairs lightly making sure I didn't disturb anyone.

Narcissa was already awake, making what seemed to be pancakes in the kitchen.

She hear my footsteps and spun round, greeting me with a warm smile.

"Morning, Poppy. How did you sleep?" She asked, pouring the mixture into her pan.

"Very well, thank you. Draco came home late last night so he's probably still tired." I told her, sitting myself down at the long table.

Narcissa nodded and spun round to flip the pancake, a slightly worried look on her face.

"Here you have this one. I'm not too hungry anyway," she said, offering me the neatly cooked pancake.

"Thank you Mrs Malfoy!" I beamed at her.

Narcissa turned off the stove then swooped down to sit on a chair opposite me.

"Poppy. I need to know. Do you know about Draco's task? And why he's been leaving suddenly at night?"

I looked at her and nodded slowly.

"Good. You deserve to know. He's been terribly anxious these past few months. I just can't wait when it's all over for him."

Narcissa smiled and wandered off upstairs, leaving me to finish my food.

The more I thought about Draco's task the more worried I became.

What would happen if Draco didn't go through with it? And if he did, would he be caught? My palms started sweating and I wiped them on my pyjama bottoms.

'When this is all over,' I thought to myself, "it'll be just how it used to be. Perfect."
