I could see thousands of lights coming from the tall buildings witch looked incredibly pretty. The midnight blue sky loomed over me but was comforting in a way. The busy street of cars could be heard and the moon was shining brighter than ever.
I walked forwards into the middle of the rooftop and look around me. It was decorated with twinkly fairy lights, which were around every inch of the roof and plants were scattered everywhere.
"Draco. It's beautiful." Words couldn't express how much delight I felt.
"I'm glad you like it." Draco said, coming to join me in the middle.
Draco got out two soft, fluffy blankets and put them down so we could sit and look at the stars.
He had brought food from the party (which smelled delicious) so we tucked into them happily.
"Do you come up here often?" I asked curiously.
"Only when I get the chance. Mother and Father are invited to lots of parties here. Not just ministry ones. There was this one time-" he cut off and looked at his knees.
"What is it? You can tell me you know." I say sympathetically, hoping he'll open up to me.
"Father had a lot of parties with his... death eater friends." He looks ashamed to say it so I put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Hey. It's okay. You don't have to be embarrassed. I know you're not a bad person."
He look upset when I said this. Was he hiding something?
"It's hard. My dad being in Azkaban. He never cared for me really. But it was always nice to not be alone. I have my mother. But she's so distraught these days. It's like she's on a different planet."
I saw a tear trickle down his cheek and Draco didn't hesitate to wipe it away. I felt bad for him. The happy Draco he's been putting on was just to hide his real emotions.
"Im sorry this is so stupid." He tried to say but his voice cracked from the restrain of tears.
I shifted closer to him and hugged him, showing all the love I could. He was surprised but soon hugged me back and whispered, "Thank you, Pops. You mean a lot to me."
My heart fluttered. He was the sweetest. All I wanted was to kiss him without a care in the world.
He drew away and locked eyes with me. Draco touched my cheek and kissed me softly. His lips tasted hot and salty from tears but his skin was cool and light.
"You look beautiful in the moonlight, Pops."
"Your so cheesy Draco."
He laughed at me and pulled me in for another kiss.I wanted this perfect moment to last forever.
But it never can.
~~~~~
At around one in the morning, Draco walked me back down to the ballroom. My parents were drunk out of their minds so they didn't seem to mind that I was with Draco.
Usually they would be angry that I was spending time with someone who's father was a death eater. But Draco's different. I know it.
I slipped into my fluffiest pyjamas and fell into a deep sleep, wondering if Draco was dreaming of me too.
Christmas Day morning was amazing. A smile crept onto my face as I remembered last night. I dopily looked out the window and saw a blanket of pure white snow covering every inch of the town. Today was going to be good.
I ran downstairs to see that Maddison had already started opening a large pile of her presents.
"Merry Christmas darling!" My mum beamed, coming over to hug me.
My father came over and joined in, handing me a mug of hot coffee that I immediately drank. I felt a heat surge through me and I set the coffee down.After an hour of opening gifts, Madeline went out to play in the snow and father went to get dressed. Mother started on a special Christmas breakfast so I looked over to the snowy window by the Christmas tree.
A small barn owl was perched on the window sill with a letter in its beak. Curious, I opened the window and took the letter, rewarding the owl with a piece of bread from the kitchen.
The cold from the outdoors was making my fingers tremble as I teared open the wax seal.
Dear Pops, it read.
'Malfoy,' i thought to myself. I carried on.
Merry Christmas! Have you seen the snow! I wish we could go out in it together. I was thinking about you last night and made you this. Hope you like it.
Best, Draco.
I stared back out the window and imagined me and Draco having a snowball fight and building a snowman. We would do it. Some day.
I opened the neatly wrapped, thin parcel that was in the envelope and it revealed a delicate necklace.
It was a crescent moon on a silver chain that reflected the snow outside. On a little piece of card, it read,
'You really did look gorgeous in the moonlight.'
I swooned. This small gift meant everything to me. I carefully put it on and admired it in a nearby mirror. It was perfect.
To Draco,
Thank you for the necklace. It's really beautiful. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get you anything. I promise I'll make it up to you.
Hope to see you soon.-poppy
I sealed it with a bright green wax seal and and used my fathers owl to send it to the Malfoy Manner. I didn't know the exact address but I was positive it would get there somehow.
Malfoy's gift put me in a good mood all day. I pigged out on turkey and stuffing complete with sticky toffee pudding and a warm custard.
That night, I was stuffed with food that I was so sleepy. I changed but didn't dare take off my necklace. It was too precious.
I was happy. For the first time in a while actually. My stomach had butterflies in it and I drifted off to sleep full of food and happy thoughts.
