"Taurtis!" A voice screamed, flashes of blood and the end giving an eerie visual to the soundtrack. Unfamiliar faces flashed out of focus, mouthing a name on repeat, but he couldn't work out what they were saying no matter how hard he tried. A world was breaking apart, glitching on repeat and rubber-banding to the point where you'd imagine it was being hacked or something. A knife stabbed into his stomach, and while it didn't hurt he could still see it gaping into his torso.

"Where is he?!"

Mumbo sat up, breathing heavily, his mind racing and pumping with adrenaline. He couldn't remember what he was dreaming about, and he had a feeling he didn't want to know, but it scared him. This world wasn't natural, and it was getting to him and seeping into his dreams.

Whatever. Sleep was overrated.

He climbed out of his bed silently, trying to avoid waking the other hermits and worrying them. He had nightmares sometimes, scratch that a lot of the time, but none had been as terrifying as that.

He noticed one other bed was empty, Grian's to be precise. He walked downstairs, finding it empty and cold. He climbed back up, expecting to find him in one of the many rooms, studying a book or something, but he wasn't in any of those. He wasn't foolish enough to go on the ground, especially at night, so that left one option.

Mumbo climbed the ladder, pushing on the trapdoor, relieved when it opened without much trouble. He clambered out, closing it behind him as he pushed himself up, smiling when he saw a familiar red sweater. He had his wings spread out, catching the slight breeze as he looked up, gazing at the night sky.

"Grian?" Mumbo murmured softly, his voice blowing away in the wind.

"Grian," he said, slightly louder so he could hear. He flinched, reaching for his obsidian sword (shut up yeah I forgot about it in the last chapter) and grasping it tightly as he turned around, terror in his eyes that softened when he realised it was Mumbo.
P
He hastily sheathed his sword, looking down in guilt then worriedly at the floor.

"Sorry, I didn't realise it was you. I thought it was- never mind." Grian apologised, biting his lip so hard it drew blood.

"Who did you think I was?"

"Someone hostile." He didn't say anymore than that, instead staring back up at the stars, and Mumbo could tell he didn't want to talk about it, and that was OK, Mumbo wasn't going to force him to tell, though he did want to know.

Mumbo joined him, laying on his back and looking up to him, as he was trying to suppress sniggers.

Rather unsuccessfully he might add.

"What?" Mumbo asked, looking up at Grian.

"What are you doing?" He laughed, leaning over him and making eye contact.

"Stargazing," Mumbo shrugged, and Grian smiled, laying down next to him and laughing.

"The stars are really pretty," Grian said, a smile creeping onto his face as he stared at them.

"They really are," Mumbo agreed, glancing to his side at Grian for a second.

"They're one of the few things that haven't been ruined or destroyed in this world. They'll be here long after everything goes to hell, and they were here long before it first became heaven," Grian murmured, barely blinking as he stared up at them blissfully.

"Why are you awake?" Mumbo asked, breaking the peaceful silence.

"It was just a nightmare - I'm normally up at this time."

"Want to talk about it?" Grian shook his head, moving slightly closer to Mumbo, and he rested his arm around him comfortingly, as they rob looked up at the stars.

Neither of them noticed when the trapdoor opened for a brief second, and a metallic creeper peered out. He was suspicious when he saw them together, staying there until he was satisfied Mumbo wasn't being hurt. Grian glanced back when he heard the trapdoor closing, but then turned his attention back to the night sky, and they stayed there until morning.

Yeah this chapter was shorter than normal sue me I started at 3am because that was apparently a smart idea. Whatever.
