"Grian once created a server called Evo. He'd just finished high school I think he said, and he decided to invite about 9 people to his server, which is us obviously, and due to the nature of the server, which was a server where you'd start in an old version and update every couple of months or so, he knew he would have to get additional support with each server update. The watchers make every update work properly if there are initial issues, but because a server isn't designed like that he would need them to be active in the world so it would function properly and prevent it from glitching. We all knew that when we joined.

But the particular two watchers who were helping us were cruel, craving praise and loyalty. Someone called Taurtis tried to escape, and in theory he should've been able to been able to, only he couldn't."

Joe remembered Grian mentioning that he'd summoned a friend called Taurtis, but he'd never mentioned any watchers or that he was admin, which he supposed made sense - he wouldn't have wanted to relive traumatic memories just to tell a story.

"After a year or so, we update to the full edition 1.0, and we decided we wanted to defeat the Ender Dragon, just for fun really. 11 people went there, 1 didn't come out." Netty went silent.

"We landed in a new world, without Grian," one of them started, one who looked more or less human. "Where we had zero power, it was the Watchers who were in charge of everything there. Then Tom got a message saying to craft an ender chest and give one to everyone, which he did. It turned out to be from some 'Listeners', who said they would help us escape. And they did."

"We wanted to find Grian, and they helped us create a portal here so we could find him," one of them finally said, their voice trailing off.

"I can lead you to his base, I think he asked Mumbo to meet up with him," Joe offered, pulling out a few pairs of elytra that he kept in a shulker box, splitting up the rockets so they each had about a stack each, which would be enough to get them to the shopping district.

They all seemed mostly fine, managing to land near Sahara - which still wasn't done - and as Grian's base was fairly near, they were able to walk the rest of the way, as Grian's tall tower came into view, and Joe apprehensively rowed over there, unsure how Grian would react.

"Sahara should be done really soon - no thanks to you and your potato," Mumbo grumbled jokingly, rolling his eyes as Grian innocently ate a baked potato.

"Hey, blame the supplier, not me," he said, shrugging as he leaned back in his chair.

"Who's the supplier then - Technoblade?" Mumbo asked, and Grian smiled innocently.

"Maybe." The innocent look on his face wasn't uncommon, though you shouldn't ever be fooled by it, considering he'd already started a war, had an obsession with dancing parrots and a habit of throwing potatoes into Sahara, it was safe to say Grian wasn't as innocent as he may appear.

Not that he appeared that innocent from the beginning.

"Anyway, the buildings look incredible - you're an insane builder," Mumbo praised, pointing to the grey cube with the logo on.

"You're incredible at Redstone."

"Sure." Mumbo rolled his eyes.

"I'm serious."

"So was I - how did you build this?!"

"Ummm, Mumbo, it looks like a futuristic cake," Grian replied, and they both dissolved into laughter as Grian heard a voice he recognised as Joe calling his name.

"What is it J-" Grian froze as he turned around, his gaze falling on a group of people, seeming so surreal to him. His mouth opened, but no words came out, as he was too focused on the figures in front of him. It had to be a trick, it just had to be in some way not real. This was probably a dream or something - they were gone and he was the admin of that server, and it wasn't like he or Xisuma had made it.

"Hey Gri," Pearl said softly, biting her lip. "Long time no see." Grian smiled, swallowing as he answered.

"Yeah... It's been- It's been quite a while, hasn't it?" He asked, not entirely sure how long it had actually been, but it was surely nearing a year.

"Problem is, Netty was wanting you to summon in some leaves for her," Mini joked, and Grian rolled his eyes.

"Does Netty want some tnt with that order?" Grian asked, grinning.

"I think you can actually break it now Grian, so I'm not sure that's going to work," Netty answered, rolling her eyes. Mumbo looked very confused, Joe slightly less so, as they likely wouldn't understand what they meant, but Grian would explain that later.

"Why you here then?" Grian asked, his voice sinking into a deeper and more melancholy tone.

"We- We missed you. Is that not an acceptable answer?" BigB asked, giving him an encouraging smile.

"You shouldn't have- It's my fault, you were probably happy enough without me..." Grian started before being cut off by Netty embracing him in a hug, followed by the rest of the evolutionists, as Grian flailed his arms around a bit before wrapping them around, unsure what to do with them.

"Grian, stop blaming yourself," Tom ordered, and Grian laughed, giving him a salute as he said.

"Aye aye sir."

"Who are they?" Mumbo whispered to joe, and he just shrugged.

"It's complicated."
