"That's great, isn't it?" Xisuma asked as Netty's face lit up with hope. "That's where your friend is, isn't it?" Grian nodded.

"Yeah, it is good. I'm just... surprised it was that easy."

"They probably don't even care,"" Netty said quietly. "Maybe it doesn't matter to them."

"Either way, I'm going," Grian said with audacity in his voice. "Xisuma and Netty, just get Pearl to Scar's base. The portal to Evo is in my hobbit hole for when you want to get back."

"You're not the only person who cares about him," Netty argued. "Pretty much everyone in Evo cares."

"But we can't have 9 people just running into a place we know is dangerous, especially considering they know that we're coming," the shorter reasoned.

"And having just you is safer?" Grian ran a hand through his hair - having Netty come would only put her in danger, something he couldn't let happen. Nobody was going to get hurt tonight, but if it had to be someone, it sure as hell wouldn't be anyone but him.

"Yeah." The simple statement seemed to completely shut Netty up, leaving her silent for a few seconds, before coldly replying.

"That's your choice then."

"Surely you can't go alone," Xisuma reasoned with the two. "What if you get hurt or something, there isn't going to be anyone there to help you."

"That's why I'm going with him." All 3 of them turned around, caught off guard when Mumbo drew attention to himself standing behind them.

"No you're not," Grian quickly shut down, Mumbo only shuffling his feet awkwardly in response.

"I don't have a server to babysit... And like Xisuma says, it's not safe for you to go alone. And I know how much this means to you, even if I don't know the exact details." His reasoning was annoyingly good, yet Grian was still reluctant to agree.

"It would make the most sense," Xisuma said when Grian didn't respond. "I think it's the best call given the options."

"Screw the options, there's no way I'm letting Mumbo get into this mess."

"You let me get into this mess," The X-man reminded.

"I didn't have a choice in that matter. Here I do, and if you think I'd pick anything but keeping Mumbo safe-" fuck my mom came in the room. I CAN'T LOAD THE DISHWASHER I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR MUM. (For context Random was helping me write this on goofle docs and this happened)

"I just want you to let me help in some way," Mumbo added quietly.

"Why do you want to get involved in this? It's only gonna get you hurt, or worse, killed," Grian asked with a hint of genuine confusion.

"Because you're my friend." This left Grian silent, his brain internally debating the options.

"If I tell you to do something, you do it," he relented, locking eyes with Mumbo. "Even if it's to abandon me, or do something that seems dangerous, you do it, got that?" Mumbo nodded after a second of hesitation. "If you get hurt - heck even die out there, that's on me. I'll never forgive myself. So no matter what happens to me out there, just promise me you'll get home safe."

"Only if you promise to not get me killed," Mumbo joked, cracking a smile at Grian.

"Deal." Grian's smile faded as he turned to look at the others. "As I said before, the portal to Evo is in my starter base. If I'm not back within the hour, destroy the portal I'm about to make," he ordered, pulling out obsidian and creating an outline of a nether portal. He pulled out a piece of paper he stole from the Watcher HQ and hesitated slightly before he thrust it into the portal.

He tuned out the rest of the world in an attempt to focus, starting to sweat from the strain. He pushed his magic as hard as he could, twisting hand until finally, the portal lit. It was a pale mint green, yet it radiated a weird aura that put Grian on edge. He hesitated slightly.

"One hour," he said, reminding them of his earlier statement to close the portal. Mumbo grabbed his hand.

"Seeya in a minute!" Mumbo said cheerily, smiling nervously before turning back around to face the portal.

"Ready?" Grian asked. Mumbo nodded. Together, they both stepped through the portal, a wave of disorientation passing over the pair of them. Mumbo stumbled a bit, leaning against a tree for a few seconds to let it pass, but Grian was used to it at this point. He provided an arm of support for his friend, which Mumbo gladly grabbed.

For the first time in close to two years, Grian looked over the Evo spawn. He choked up slightly when he saw the familiar clay and snow structure in the middle of the ocean, and while multiple parts of it had fallen down, it was still easily recognisable.

Mumbo put a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.

"Do you need a moment?" Grian shook his head.

"No, it's just- Nevermind. We should start looking. The files gave us some coordinates, and they're quite far away so we should try to get there before dark," Grian fumbled, showing Mumbo a piece of paper.

"You think we'll be able to get 100,000 blocks out?" He asked, as if he'd read the number wrong.

"If we fly, we might be able to. Or we could teleport, but that would let the watchers know we're here."

"They probably already know we're here," Mumbo nudged softly. "If it gets us there faster, that's the better option before they have time to move him." Grian reluctantly agreed, pulling out an old communicator and typing in a command. "Once we get there, we grab Taurtis, teleport back here and get back to Hermitcraft, got it?" Grian ordered; Mumbo nodded.

Glancing at his friend for reassurance, Grian pressed enter. They landed a few blocks too high, meaning they crumpled onto the floor when they landed. Grian started laughing quietly, and Mumbo joined in, both of them struggling to get up. They did manage to get up though, and once the laughing stopped, they were in eerie silence.

The silence was broken by a cat purring. It rubbed against Grian's leg, letting out an almost desperate meow as it began walking towards a house that neither of them had noticed previously. The cat hid in a bush next to the house. Part of Grian wanted to knock on the door out of politeness, but too many people in horror movies were dumb enough to do that and he knew it would be a bad idea, so he went in without knocking, Mumbo following directly behind.

The pair of them scoured the downstairs, finding nothing of note. Then Grian noticed a pair of broken headphones on the floor. He bent down to pick them up, turning them over and noticing blood on the back. It was still wet.

He wiped the blood off and stared at them for a few seconds before pocketing them.

"I think we should check upstairs," Mumbo said from behind Grian, making him jump. Grian nodded in agreement, grabbing onto the handrail as he made his way up the stairs. There was a single room with a bed in the centre. It seemed empty until Grian turned around to the corner behind him, seeing a battered, bloodstained boy. His voice was slurred slightly and sounded tired, but Grian would've recognised it anywhere.

"Hey Gri."

You're all gonna hate me in the next chapter. Blame discord, I gave them all a poll and they voted for... Well...

They're a bunch of bloodthirsty people.
