Sometimes I regret being nice, being to kind to people who deserved everything but the kindness of my heart. I was so quick to apologize when I didn't do anything wrong. Yesterday is a prime example of that.
The way Mary humiliated me and then try to blame it on me was ridiculous. The way I didn't even say anything to defend myself either.
Ever since I was little I always held back words, bit my tongue, stayed quiet when I should've spoke. It wasn't until I met Alison, when I realized she changed me.
I never used to be so outspoken, I always use to run from things. She somehow gave me courage, courage to strong.
"what are you thinking about?" Alison asks bringing me out my thoughts causing me to look up at her.
She sat across from me in her room, sitting at a small table with her laptop in front of me as I was sitting up in her bed.
"how I can't believe you actually brought your work with you, when we're supposed to be on vacation" I lie.
A smile escapes from her lips at my comment, "just because you're on vacation doesn't mean I'm on vacation" she tells me as her eyes turn back to her MacBook screen.
I roll my eyes. "That's because I no longer have a job.." I say.
"You don't need one. I'll take care of you"
Not this again.
"But-.. she cuts me off, "think about it. You never having to work again, I'll pay for everything." She says as if that was supposed to appeal to me.
I laugh slightly as her comment causing her to look at me. "That seems like every girls dream. To not have to work ever again, a day in their life... but not mine" I tell her.
Her fingers typed at a speed against the keys, "so what... you want to take the job my brother offered you?" She asks.
"It's not a bad idea"
Her typing stopped and she looked at me, "you're right but thinking about your own boss, wouldn't you want to take a break. What if you won't work for 6 months, then you can make your mind up about working. I can take" — I cut her off with my deep sigh.
"Ali... just because you're a millionaire and I'm with you doesn't mean I am also one" I let her know.
"But you can be"
I remove the covers off of my before getting out of bed. "I know you can take care of me, Alison. But I also want to be independent. If this job doesn't work out, then I'll do the 6 months like you suggested, okay?" I ask her while approaching her.
"Really?" She asks causing me to nod.
"I forgot to mention, we are going out to dinner with my family tonight, so dress up" she tells me.
I swallowed hard before asking, "will your aunt be coming?" I ask.
Her typing stops and her eyes shift up to me, "you don't have to worry about her, em. What happened last night, will never happen again" she tells me.
"That's not what I'm worried about"
"Tell me what's bothering you?" She asks closing her laptop giving me her undivided attention.
"nothing is bothering me"
Even though my mouth was lying, my eyes however, told the truth. She sighs before motioning me to go over to her, I slowly did so.
Standing in front of her as she was sitting, she takes my hand and caresses it softly while looking at me. "I know you... nothing is always something," she tells me.
