The sun peers onto your face through the hole in between the curtains. You wake up, walking groggily towards the bathroom. You eye your appearance on the mirror: puffy eyes, messy hair, disheveled clothes— all signs of a breakup. Well, you didn't break up with Laito. It was more of a self-proclaimed breakup. You thought of what happened yesterday, the image of the purple-haired girl lingered in your thoughts.
"What aspects do I lack in?" You ask yourself, looking at your body. You fix your clothes, combed your hair, and tried to smile in the mirror. You were contented with how you looked and didn't find anything wrong, after all, you learned to love yourself first. You heave a sigh before washing your face. You decided to do something productive to forget about Laito and the purple-haired girl.
"I guess I could jog." You rummage through your closet to find a decent outfit during the winter. You take a hair tie from the drawer and tie your hair in a neat ponytail before leaving the house with your phone. You plug in your earphones and blast your favorite music to the max volume, blocking out any noise that could disrupt your concentration.
After running around the neighborhood for about ten laps, you were getting quite tired and took a rest at a nearby park. Glancing to your right, you could see the vending machine calling out to you, telling you to quench your thirst. Of course, you got tempted. You around the choices of drinks before you. A sudden realization brought you to a halt. You didn't bring your wallet with you. "Gosh, stupid me." You facepalm, looking at your favorite drink with a sad gaze. "Goodbye (Favorite Drink)." You say before turning around to leave.
You hear a distant clink of several coins and the drop of a bottle. "Hey!" Someone calls out. You didn't turn around as you didn't assume that the person was calling out to you. "Girl with the (Hair Color) hair!" He continues to call for you. You turn around to see him walking towards you, handing you your favorite drink. "Huh?" You looked at him with a confused expression. "I just saw you looking at the drink... uh, I'm not a stalker or anything bad! Just doing something nice for someone..." He sheepishly says, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Thank you... um..."
"(Random Name)."
"Thank you (Random Name)."
"No problem, haha. Just wanted to help." He grins, making you blush a little. "Oh, I must be holding you up from your jog." He says, taking a sip from his can to ease his nervousness. "I just finished actually. If you'd like, we can talk for a bit, after all, I owe you for the drink." He gestures towards the bench and you both take a seat beside each other. "Do you live around here?" You ask him, starting up the conversation. "Nah, I came here for a jog just like you. I... wanted to be productive."
"Same." You grip onto the bottle of your drink, the thought of Laito comes up again. You shake your head, removing the thought of that cheater. "I just wanted to take my mind off of some things... well, someone actually." You smile bitterly. "What a coincidence. Me too." He says, bringing out his phone. "Here. My ex-girlfriend." He shows you a photo of a purple-haired girl with a man wearing a fedora.
"What the hell." You thought. "My friend sent me this yesterday. I asked her about it and she just broke up with me through a text. Funny, isn't it? I must be a loser." He glances at the image on his screen, looking at his ex-lover. "No... we're losers." You chuckle to yourself, looking at the trees bearing no leaves. "Huh? Why do you say so?"
"Your ex is with my ex." What you said had made (Random Name) look at you with a shocked expression. "Y-You're ex?" You nod, confirming his question. "Wow. This is so unbelievable." He laughs, running a hand through his brown hair before ruining his neat hairstyle. "What are the odds I'll run into my ex's ex-girlfriend."
"Well, (Random Name). The chances are low but I'm glad that we met. See you." You stood up, brushing the imaginary dust from your coat. (Random Name) didn't mind you as a notification popped in his phone. A message from his friend saying that he's being invited to a gathering and could bring a plus one, though his friend added a little more detail to it— his ex is coming. An idea popped into his mind. He sees your retreating form before screaming, "Wait!" You turn around and look at him, halting in your tracks.
"Say, are you available for lunch?" He asks, approaching you. "Yes, why?" He grins devilishly before continuing, "Do you want to get back at your ex?"
