"Oh God! Ayato put that down!" You quickly grab the pan away from him as he climb on top of the table. "Mama!" Kanato whines as he drops his teddy bear on the floor, on the verge of crying. You quickly pick the bear up and gave it to him. "Subaru no!" You pick the knife away from him and placed it back. "Mommy!" Laito screams from the top of his lungs. "What is it Raito?" As you approach Laito, you tripped. As you pick yourself up, you see Shu sleeping on the floor unbothered. You had accidentally tripped on his foot. You quickly picked Shu and placed him onto the couch. "Mama!" Laito releases an ear piercing scream. How could you take care of six babies at the same time?
As the months pass by, you slowly got the hang of everything as you memorized what each boy wanted. Shu wanted earphones, Reiji wanted books, Ayato wanted takoyaki, Kanato wanted a new teddy bear, Laito wanted a new fedora hat, and Subaru wanted a white rose. Reiji and Subaru would help you around with house chores while Shu would occasionally help. Ayato and Laito would only create trouble while Kanato would cry all day.
Year by year, these boys have grown up into decent boys although they would bicker sometimes especially Laito and Ayato. Laito would purposely do something wrong so he could take your time which results in the other boys to complain that they don't get as much time to spend with you. On the other hand, Ayato would always tease his brothers and it would result in a fist fight wherein Ayato would back off if the opponent is too strong. For example, Ayato would tease how Reiji was a nerd and his brother would challenge him into a quiz bee. Ayato didn't like the idea so he ran away but when it comes to Ayato teasing Kanato, the moment that Ayato speaks, there's always a fist coming right at him.
Reiji would always be at his best behavior along with Subaru and Shu. Although Subaru was the youngest, you don't get why Ayato, Kanato, and Laito were acting like children. Laito would always say, "I'm going to live forever anyway. What's the point of my existence if I don't irk my brothers?"
One day, you noticed the brothers' strange behavior. They were nowhere to be found and whenever you would find one of them, they would walk past you like air. I mean, they're already like a hundred years old, they don't need to be constantly reminded to do this and that but the feeling that you have made you nervous. Never in your existence had the boys ever treated you like that.
You were currently folding the clothes of the Sakamaki boys until you hear a loud crash coming from a part of the house. You went to the source of the noise and found the boys in the kitchen. "What are you doing?" Laito blocked your view and said, "Nothing. Ayato was hungry for some takoyaki." You raise a skeptical brow at him. "Oh my mother. You don't trust me?" Laito raises your chin with his pointing finger. "Ew don't do that." You slap his hand away. "Why is everyone ignoring me today except you?" You ask.
Laito stiffen but soon relaxes. Suddenly, something clicked in your mind. What if they knew that you were never their biological mom? That explains why you all have different hair colors and appearances. You slowly clutch your hand, afraid that they will know. "What's wrong mother?" Laito asks. "I'm tired. I'll be heading to my room first." When you both separated ways, Laito quickly ran back to the kitchen to help out.
It was nearing midnight and you could still hear the voices of the boys. "Shh! Don't speak."
"Shut up Subaru."
"Shh! She'll hear us!"
"Stop talking!"
"Whatever."
You hear a light knock on your door to which you received. The moment the door opened, Kanato bursts in and places a party hat on your head. "Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you!" They sang. Oh my, how could you forget your own birthday? Your eyes started to fill with tears. "Make a wish!" You ponder before you close your eyes. "I wish to have a prosperous life with my boys." You blow out your three digit candles. "Is that why you were all ignoring me?"
"It was Shu's idea. Surprisingly it worked."
"Oh, I thought you guys knew something."
"Actually, we have something to tell you mother."
"What is it?"
"We know."
"You all know what?"
"That you're not our biological mom." This tugged your heart. You raised the boys when they were young and now that they know, it hurts you. "S-since when?" You stutter. "Ever since I was a baby!" Laito proudly states. Shu hit the back of his head for acting like an idiot. "It doesn't matter if we know, what matters is that you stayed with us and nurtured us to the best we can be. We, brothers, are thankful for that." Shu states as the boys agree. "Thank you!" You bring the brothers into a big hug.
The night was celebrated with the birthday cake pasted on everyone's faces!
