"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked. My voice seemed to drop three octaves, and it was already on the verge of breaking.
"I think you forgot who's house this is," James reminded me. "And I think you also forgot who isnt the biggest fan of you right now and would be glad to let his cousin come over to make sure you didn't leave this thing a winner." Andrew. I looked around, but I couldn't find him. He must have left. Classic.
"What do you want from me?" I asked with my voice cracking all over the place.
"You don't have to do anything, princess," he mocked. "Just sit down and enjoy."
     "Enjoy what?" I cried.
"Well we both know I'm a straight A student- I was almost definitely getting a full ride to college with my grades and football- but thanks to you, I now have criminal record," he put air quotes around the "criminal record" and made sure to say every word with as much drama as a teen girl. "And I got kicked off the football team and got suspended sooo I'd be lucky to get into a party school." I tried my best to keep a straight face. I had to be strong. "Anyway, with my suspension I need somewhere else to practice my presentation skills," He pulled out his phone. "So I present to you 'Samantha Marcus: Scarsdale's biggest slut." He quickly tapped a few things and suddenly, his screen was displayed on the tv.
"So, in case you weren't aware of the story being presented to you today, this is Miss Samantha Marcus," he said dramatically pulling up my Instagram. I couldn't bring any of the muscles in my body to stop it. "Pretty basic Scarsdale hoe." He started scrolling through my pictures, stopping at one of Chloe and me outside by her pool. "Not your best angle," he mumbled. I heard some girls scoff, but nobody was sticking up for me. "Overall, she's a poser," James shrugged.
"She has 7,000 followers," Jordan said sassily. "If she's a poser then I guess she's REALLY good at it, huh?" At least someone was speaking for me.
"Oh I was getting to that," James nodded. "So, like I said, she's your basic JAP. Why so many followers?" Then he scrolled down to a picture of Noah and I at the beach.
"Mr. Noah 'Netflix' Schnapp." I gulped unintentionally. What was he getting at? What if Andrew told him about the whole ice cream thing? Duh, of course he did. Fuck. "So plenty of you know they've been putting on the whole 'brother and sister' act for years now. Noah's followers have caught onto this and have been giving Samantha the ego that was already too big."
"Keep Noah out of this," was all I could bring myself to stay.
"You brought him into it princess," he mocked. "When you brought him into Andrew's dad's bedroom." I heard gasps from around me and I made sure to keep my cool.
"Yo James I got you on video," Kaller called from the back of the circle. He was stuck behind a huge group, otherwise he would probably be punching him right now. His hand was sticking over the crowd with his phone in hand.
"Who cares? My reputation's already ruined here and to be honest I don't care," he shrugged. "But I would hate it if you got this on recording." He then swiped to his camera roll and played a video. It was just of a white door that I didn't recognize. James nodded toward the basement, and I saw it was the same door. I then heard a familiar voice.
"Dude it's perfect," the voice said.
"Are you sure?" A voice I knew too well responded. It was Noah, but his voice sounded muted and cloudy, like he was talking to someone on the phone- which he probably was.
"You get her upstairs and you got her," the voice answered. I now realized it was Kaller. I looked back toward him and he was frozen.
"I don't know, what if she says no? Then our friendship is like over."
"Man, she's head over heels for you, she'll say yes. Besides, we'll be at Andrew's. Maybe James left some drugs over from his failed attempt." I shot my eyes to Kaller and he was looking at me concerned.
"That's so not funny," Noah responded. But he was laughing.
"Mhm," Kaller chuckled. "Just kidding. Don't do that I don't wanna go back to court on a Saturday."
"Shit, she's here she's in Chloe's room," Noah whispered. "Bye." the video ended and everyone turned to me. I had no words.
"Antha, it was just a joke!" Kaller called. I knew it was a joke, and normally I wouldn't care, but the fact that everyone heard it- that James got it on video.
"If Noah and Samantha are really just like siblings like they say, then I guess 'manipulative slut' runs in the family," James shrugged. "And I'm sure you're all wondering how they're hookup was. I have the answer." He slid over to one last video and pressed play.
"Stop!" I finally brought myself to yell. "Cant you just leave me alone!"
"Hey, hey, hey," he said calmly. "Almost done." I bit my lip and let the video play. Mortifyingly, I heard the whole conversation Noah and I had after our attempted hookup. The video ended just as we were discussing how we'd leave the room separately. Speaking of which, where is Noah?
"And there you have it folks," James exclaimed. "Noah is available ladies, and Samantha Marcus is just your average Scarsdale slut." He took a little bow before walking right up to me.
"You really thought you were gonna leave this whole thing a winner didn't you," he whispered.
"What the fuck is your problem?!" I heard from behind me. I felt myself light up at the familiar voice.
"Oh, our other protagonist!" James exclaimed. "Noah 'Netflix' Schnapp everyone. You here to beat me up again? Because clearly that's the only way you know how win."
"Why are you here? Why can't you move on?" he asked aggressively as he got closer to James. They were almost exactly the same height- several inches taller than me- which made the whole conversation just that much more intimidating.
"I had to fix things before I went home," he explained.
"I thought you left weeks ago," Noah questioned.
"Had to come back when I heard what your trashy failed hookup did to my cousin." Some people in the crowd "oohed," but most just stayed silent.
"Don't you dare call Sam that," Noah whispered in James' face. I know it's a bad time, but it was very attractive.
"Noah, don't worry about him," I said nudging him away slightly. "He's not worth our time." I grabbed Noah's arm to try to pull him away.
"Giving the bedroom another shot?" James asked. "I know Schnapp has been preparing for this with his motivational phone calls." I felt Noah pull his arm away from me and whip himself back around
"Can you shut up?! Can you just get out of our lives?!" He wasn't screaming, but his volume had significantly risen.
"Noah," James shook his head smiling. "I wanted to be friends but you hated me since day 1. Just because you knew I had a better chance with Samantha than you ever will."
"That's not true. I knew you were an asshole. That's why I hated you."
"Was it that?" James asked. "Or was it that I drugged Samantha's best friend, then still got closer to hooking up with her than you did?"
"Oh my fucking god, I don't care about hooking up with Sam! I'm in love with her!" Noah exclaimed suddenly. James went silent- a bunch of girls broke into "Aw!"s and some of Noah's friends were hyping him up. I, on the other hand, felt like I was dreaming. I couldn't bring myself to reality. I barely heard James as he dropped a few more highly insulting comments, then stormed out.
"Yeah, ok show's over," Noah shook his head. I was standing still, paralyzed. I had nothing to drink, but felt like I had just taken 10 shots at least. "Can I take you upstairs?" he asked. "NOT to hookup!" he made sure to announce. I nodded without having to think. He must have noticed that I was completely out of it, because he didn't even ask to me to walk. He just picked me up, wrapping my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck, and carried me up to the same room we were in before. I was shivering- not due to being cold.
He gently placed me onto the bed and the second I touched it, I blurted "is it true?"
"What?" he asked. He was in the process of taking off his sweatshirt.
     "What you said," I prompted.
"Well I said it, didn't I?" He shrugged. He pulled his sweatshirt over his head and signaled for me to raise my arms, so I did. He put his sweatshirt on me and I helped it go on without realizing what was happening. "It's ok if you don't feel the same way," Noah told me. "I just had to say it, ok?" I nodded. He stood up and made his way toward the door. "You should rest." He was about to walk out the door when I finally snapped back to reality just in time.
"Wait!" I exclaimed. He turned back to me. "Come sit," I told him. A small smile crept onto his face and he walked over to sit next to me. I made room for him, but he ended up picking me up, and putting both of us lying down, with my head on his chest. He immediately put his hand on my cheek, only this time, I didn't pull my face away. This time, I fell asleep in the arms of the boy I love.
