What was I doing? I brushed my hair for 0.5 seconds, put on my slides, and walked out the door. I didn't even bother saying anything to my parents. I didn't want to give them an opportunity to ask about Noah or Chloe or anything. Instead, I just left and started walking towards town. The walk is like 15 minutes, but it's still better than reliving everything that just happened in the car with my mom.
I purposely walked the way opposite of Noah's house. It added an extra few minutes, but I didn't wanna risk passing him. Instead, I walked by Andrew's-oh. Right we're neighbors. Maybe we should've met here. I guess I've been really out of it. Whatever, I didn't wanna have to deal with the whole walk with him. My inner introvert couldn't handle that. I kept walking and pretended not to see his house.
"Oh, Sam!" I heard him call out. I winced quickly and then faked a smile.
"Andrew," I said cheerfully turning to him. I saw him close the fence to his backyard.
"I'm so dumb, I completely forgot we're neighbors for a second," he laughed.
"Yeah, same," I responded. He was looking at me like he wanted my approval for me to walk with him. I'm weak so I gave in.
"Well, do you wanna walk together?" I asked.
"Yeah, good idea," he smiled coming towards me. I smiled awkwardly and we started towards town. "So, why did you randomly ask me to hang out?" he asked. "I mean when I brought up the idea earlier today you sounded kinda reluctant." Should I just tell him?
"Well, to be honest, Noah Chloe and I are kinda fighting."
"What about?" He asked. Well, where do I start? Noah and I kinda confessed our feelings for eachother but I messed everything up by saying I'd get ice cream with you- which is what we're doing now.
"Dumb stuff, we're all just stressed from the trial," I made up.
"Yeah, makes sense," he nodded. "I'm really sorry again about everything."
"It's ok," I reassured him. "It wasn't you. Is James still staying with you?"
"He and my Uncle left straight from the trial to some hotel. They said they'd be back to pick up their stuff, but they want me to stay in my room when they do."
"That's harsh," I sighed. "So are they going back home?" Andrew nodded.
"Thankfully," he answered. "I really don't know what happened since last summer. He was so chill but since he got here all he's been talking about is wanting to like bang you guys" I cringed at that last part. "Sorry," he apologized. "I know it's so weird."
"The sad part is I fell for his whole 'I really like you' thing."
"No, he did like you," Andrew nodded. "He thought you were really cool, he just also really wanted to... you know."
"Mhm," I mumbled. "Well I'm glad we don't have to deal with it anymore, but I hope you guys will be able to be friends again."
"We'll see." he sighed a little louder than he wanted to. "Don't worry about me," Andrew insisted.
"This whole situation just makes me feel so stupid and used," I explained.
"I know, I'm so sorry," he sighed sincerely. "If it makes you feel any better, he really did like you a lot."
"So did I," I shrugged.
"James beat me again," Andrew chuckled.
"What?" I asked.
"He was here for like a month and he got you to like him," he shook his head. "Been barking up that tree since 7th grade and I'm just now getting there."
"Oh," I laughed closing my eyes. "Andrew, I'm so sorry but right now I'm really not looking for another relationship... or whatever James and I had."
"I know, I know," he chuckled. "But a guy can dream right." Kinda awkward. "If you don't mind me asking," he started again. "I saw you and Noah dancing in the courtyard at Sadie Hawkins." Shit. "Was that just as friends or...?"
"I had just found out about James," I explained. "I was really scared and upset and Noah's my best friend so I called him and we talked about it and ended up dancing a little just to lighten the mood." Andrew nodded.
"Ok, ok cool." He seemed relieved. He knew he would never stand a chance against Noah. Little did he know, my explanation was a bit of a lie. "Oh right, plus Julia," Andrew pointed out.
"Huh?" I asked. "Noah and Julia are just friends."
"No I know but don't they like each other?" he asked.
"No," I answered a little more defensively than I should have.
"Oh, Julia was telling me about it at the dance, I don't know maybe I misunderstand." He had to have misunderstood. Noah would never like Julia again after they dated in seventh grade. She would totally just use him for fame and clout. She's not even that pretty or anything.Oop. Here I am being jealous and annoying just like Noah was with James. Oh how the tables have turned.
Soon enough, we finally got to the ice cream place. "You gotta try the rocky road here," Andrew tried to convince me as we walked towards the door.
"No way, I always get mint chip."
"Well maybe it's time you take a risk," he teased. I rolled my eyes laughing. He put his hand on the door and pushed it open. I heard the familiar jingle of the bell on the door. Andrew stepped in first, holding the door for me. "Oh, hey!" Andrew exclaimed. I looked around him to see who he was greeting. I saw Julia sitting at a table near the wall. She was smiling and waving at Andrew.
"Hi," I greeted her. She looked at me and her smile shrunk slightly. I then saw Noah walking towards her with two ice cream cones in hand. Oh, absolutely not.
"Oh... hi Noah," Andrew added. He looked up at Andrew, then his eyes darted to me.
"Of course," he sighed.
