All of our eyes grew wide. I could see in Noah's expression that he would do anything to go back in time to see who the boy was. "You said he was giving her a phone number," Officer Jack started. Noah nodded. "Was it on a piece of paper?" Noah nodded again and my heart fell to my stomach. Officer Jack nodded in response. "And he was tall with brown hair." Noah nodded one more time. "Ok, thank you."
The rest of the questions seemed useless. We knew who did it...We just didn't know who that person was. Officer Jack stayed for another few minutes and then said his goodbyes and left.
"The things I'd do to know who that guy was," Noah sighed.
"I know," Chloe added. "I wonder if she has any memory of being with that boy."
"He said she has no memory of anything after getting to the party," Noah reminded. "We'll just have to leave this to the cops for now." I nodded. I heard steps coming from upstairs and saw my mom peeking down.
"Hi," she spoke. "Are you guys done?" We all nodded. "Mrs. Raskin asked if you guys could come over to see Julia." My heart lit up and I could tell Noah and Chloe's did too.
"Yeah for sure," I answered immediately. "Can you take us?"
"Of course," she smiled grabbing her keys. Noah Chloe and I practically ran to the car.
"I call shotgun!" Chloe exclaimed. I groaned. She hopped into the front seat of my mom's car and Noah and I got into the back.
"Is Julia doing good?" Noah asked.
"She was perfectly fine when I was there," my mom responded. "just a little tired." I know I've been reassured many many times that she's fine, but it feels so good every time.
In only a few minutes, we arrived at the Raskin's house. We said bye to my mom and walked up to the front door. I rang the bell and heard someone walking towards us. I felt my heart speeding up and I took a deep breath. Immediately after, I looked down to see Noah gently holding the tips of my fingers. I looked up at him and we made eye contact, acknowledging that we both knew it was ok. Mrs. Raskin opened the door wearing a baggy tshirt and a messy bun.
"Hi," she smiled. "Thank you guys for coming."
"Thanks for having us," Noah responded.
"We couldn't wait to see Julia," I added. Mrs. Raskin grinned.
"She's been asking to see you guys all morning. I just wanted her to get some more sleep." She led us upstairs even though we all knew where Julia's room was. I think it was more of an instinct. Mrs. Raskin knocked gently on the door.
"Come in!" Julia responded. She sounded just like new. Mrs. Raskin creaked open the door and I saw Julia sitting on her bed in pajamas. "Hey guys!" she smiled and stood up. She walked over and hugged each of us individually.
"I'll let you be alone, but please let me know if you start to feel at all dizzy or tired," Mrs. Raskin reminded. "Remember, the doctor said you might not realize-"
"Mom," Julia interrupted. "I know, thank you." Mrs. Raskin nodded sheepishly and walked away. "Anyway," Julia started. "Thank you for coming."
"How are you doing?" Chloe asked eagerly.
"I'm fine," Julia assured her. "I'm just mad that we don't know who did it." By the way she said "it" I could tell she really didn't want to talk about the situation. I would probably be embarrassed too, but Julia prides herself on her strength and independence. It was clear she felt weak and that was an usual feeling for her.
"The cops are gonna fine out," Noah said. "But you really don't remember who you were talking to before you went upstairs?" Julia shook her head.
"I really don't," she said almost annoyed. "And before you ask, I don't remember anything from getting to the party to this morning." We were all silent. "Sorry if I sound rude," she apologized. "I'm just tired of being questioned about something I can't remember at all."
"Then we don't need to talk about it," Chloe concluded. Julia smiled.
"Thanks."
