School ended quickly and before I knew it, it was time for Andrew's. Of course, Kaller had managed to get himself and all of his friends invitations. He wouldn't give up until he made it to at least ONE of Andrew's parties. "What time do you wanna get there?" I asked Chloe from across her room on her bed.
"Well it starts at 9 and will probably end at like 2," she recalled putting on mascara. "So, 1:30?" I chuckled.
"How about 9:45?" I asked.
"Fine," she rolled her eyes joking.
"Don't act like you're not excited...I know Josh is going," I teased her. She smirked embarrassed. They had been hanging out almost every day.
"Well what about you?" she asked. "Without going into any details because that's totally gross, what's going on with you and Noah again?" I cringed internally. It's always weird talking to Chloe about Noah since they're...you know...twins.
"We agreed to put things off until after school," I reminded her.
"I know, but school's over now," she pointed out. "Sooo should I be expecting a sister-in-law or what?" I shook my head smiling.
"I really don't know right now Chlo," I sighed. She nodded returning the sigh.
"Well don't worry," she told me. "It'll work itself out." Just then, her phone started ringing. I looked over and saw it was Josh. She looked up to me awkwardly.
"Go," I said motioning to the door. She sighed and smiled.
"Be right back," she promised and scurried out towards the basement. I smiled to myself, happy for Chloe. Josh was bringing out a new person in her and it was so nice to watch happen. I didn't have too much time think because Chloe's door creaked open. Was she done already? I whipped my head around and saw a face very similar to hers- except it was a boy.
"Hey Noah," I said trying to act casual.
"Hey," he said walking in with his hands in his pockets. He turned around and gently closed the door behind him.
"Everything good?" I asked him.
"Yeah, yeah," he assured me. "Just...can I ask you something?" I nodded slowly and nervously. He took a deep breath and came and sat next to me on Chloe's bed. "So Andrew's party," he started.
"You're going?" I double checked. He nodded quickly trying to get on in the conversation.
"Yeah, so anyway..." he started again before pausing. "I know we wanted to like keep things chill at least until school ended and well it ended now."
"Yeah," I said cautiously trying to see where he was going. He looked away from me and took a deep breath.
"Ok I'm just gonna say it. Do you wanna like...hook up or whatever at Andrew's?" he sounded extremely uncomfortable and awkward. As if he didn't want to do this but he felt it was the only way to move forward with "us." In fact, Kaller probably told him to do this.
"Umm," I started. I had no idea what to say to be honest, but in the moment, I wanted to keep things going too. "Yeah, sure," I answered. He nodded.
"Ok, cool," he had a small smile on his face, but it seemed like a courtesy. At that moment, I heard Chloe walking up the stairs. "Shit," he whispered. "Well, I'll see you tonight," he finished and ran out quickly. Chloe turned into the room looking toward Noah's door.
"Did Noah come in?" she asked.
"Oh yeah he was just looking for something," I lied. She looked at me and nodded unconvinced.
"What exactly was he looking for?" she played along.
"His water bottle," I responded.
"Mhm," she shook her head. I felt bad not telling Chloe about what happened, but imagine hearing about your brothers plans to hook up with your best friend. Of course I'd have to tell her after, but not now. That's way too uncomfortable.
I soon started hearing noise coming from down the street as people started arriving at Andrew's.
"Tonight better go well," Chloe shook her head.
"You can say that again," I chuckled. Not only was I worried about Andrew, but this was our first party since the Julia incident. On top of that, I was gonna make out with someone I called my brother a month ago... Oh my god kill me that's disgusting.
"I hope Julia will feel ok," Chloe added. "Like not scared."
"Yeah," I responded. "I think everything's settled down hopefully. I think it'll be ok."
"Yeah."At around 9:50, we walked over. Luckily, Noah "had to finish something" and couldn't walk over with us, so he came like 10 minutes later. I could already hear everyone from outside. It was nowhere near as loud as the last party, so I don't think we had to worry about cops. I opened the door and was greeted by the smell of alcohol and given up teenagers. Lovely. Something else different about this party is that I knew almost everyone. I saw Kaller almost immediately. "Antha! Chloe!" he called. He had a red solo cup in his hand, but I could tell it was mostly for show. "Can you believe it?" he asked quietly. "Finally, we're at one of Andrew's parties!" We rolled our eyes. "Oh and Chloe, Josh is downstairs he's waiting for you." I looked at her teasingly. I knew Kaller didn't mean anything dirty by that, but I had to. She shook her head and chuckled.
"Ok, I'll see you guys later," she nodded walking toward the basement stairs.
"Sooo," Kaller sang pulling me into the corner. "Noah talked to you?" he asked raising an eyebrow. I nodded rolling my eyes- man my eyes get put to work with Kaller. "Where are you gonna-"
"Oh my god!" I interrupted him. "Shut up!" I laughed.
"Hey, I have ex boyfriend rights," he defended himself. Oh right, we dated. "In fact, I also have best friend rights so where?"
"I don't know," I shrugged. "I've been trying not to think about it."
"Well that's nice. Maybe don't say that to Noah," he chuckled.
"I'm just saying, it feels weird," I explained. He nodded.
"I know, I know," he said. "Well I recommend upstairs. Tyler Garris already puked in the basement."
"Lovely," I cringed. Almost on cue, the door clicked open and a swarm of people came in, led by Noah. He saw us almost instantaneously.
"Ay there he is," Kaller teased. "Have fun," he sang.
"Dont you dare leave me right now," I hissed.
"Fine, Ill play third wheel." Noah walked over and did that weird thing you do where you nod your head to say hi to your friends in the hall.
"Hey," he greeted. It was definitely quieter on the main floor than in the basement, so he didn't have to yell. Almost nobody was upstairs. As Kaller mentioned, people only went upstairs to hook up.
"Lookin good Schnapp," Kaller said. Noah smirked.
"Back at you Kaller. You too Marcus." I wasn't used to Noah calling me by last name. It was unfamiliar and It took me by surprise. In a way, it almost made me feel better about what was going to happen later- it was like it wasn't the Noah I'd known my whole life. I know that's a stretch, but I was reaching for anything I could get.
"Hey guys!" I heard Jordan call from the basement stairs. We all turned and saw her covered those beaded necklaces and plastic hats. Classic. "Kaller! Come be my partner for beer pong!" He looked at me for approval. I gave the tiniest nod I could. Then to be even more obvious, he looked over to Noah, who also nodded.
"Alright," he called to Jordan, not taking his eyes off of us. His eyebrow was raised and I'm pretty sure I saw him wink before he turned. I took my time turning back to face Noah and saw he was doing the same thing.
"So," he started. "You look great."
"You already said that," I teased.
"Right," he nodded to himself chuckling.
"You do too," I added.
"Thank you." I was going to wait for him to say something about our plan, but I felt myself make an impulsive decision in the moment.
"So do you wanna go upstairs?" I asked almost in code. He nodded.
"Yeah, sure," he played along. "Probably gonna get pretty crowded later." I nodded and we silently walked upstairs.
