Chapter 24

Archie grins widely as he walks back into the living room. He hands Everleigh a bowl of ice cream and sits down next to Veronica.

"Thank you daddy" the little girl smiles. She sits on the couch in her purple footie pyjamas with her legs crossed.

"You're welcome"

"What are you so excited about?" Veronica giggles as she leans into Archie's chest.

"I'm not excited"

"Oh you are. You're all giggly. Tell me!"

A knock on the door stops Archie from answering. He jumps up and practically runs to the door. "Finally!" he exclaims.

"Auntie Betty" Everleigh squeals. She hands her mom the bowl of ice cream and runs to the door. She jumps into the woman's arms and kisses her cheek, leaving chocolate ice cream on Betty's skin.

"Hey sweetie"

"Betty? what are you doing here?" Veronica asks as she approaches them. Archie wraps his arms around her middle and pulls her against his chest. "Get ready babe. Betty is babysitting and we're going out"

"What?"

"You, me, date" he grins. "I called Betty this morning  and asked her to watch Ev. I packed a bag for her. She's staying at Betty's tonight"

"Yay sleepover!" the little girl squeals.

"You can stay in your pjs honey. Let's get your bag and go!"

"But my ice cream" she whines and turns around to the coffee table in front of the couch where Veronica placed the bowl.

"You can finish your ice cream and then go" Archie smirks. He squeezes Veronica closer and kisses her cheek. His hands rest on her stomach "And you have 20 minutes to get ready"

"20 minutes?! How am I supposed to get ready in 20 minutes? I don't even know what to wear!"

"Wear that dark blue dress you wore on our first date. You look really pretty in it" he smiles. He leans closer and places a kiss under her ear before he whispers "and very, very hot"

A shiver runs down Veronica's spine. She bites the inside of her lip and places her hands on Archie's.

"You two get ready. I'll take care of Ev" Betty giggles. She can see the look in her friend's eyes and she can tell that Veronica's excited to have a romantic evening with Archie.
She spins out of his arms, grabs his hand and pulls him to her bedroom. She opens the closet and finds the dress Archie was talking about right away.

"Mhhh that's the one. You look so beautiful in it" he smiles

"Thank you Archiekins"

He kisses her lips softly before he stares into the closet. He has some of his clothes in Veronica's apartment and he brought some extra clothes for tonight. "White dress shirt or blue?" he asks.

"Mhhh white and dark blue pants. That matches with my dress"

"Okay honey" he chuckles.

"Uhm Archie can you turn around?"

"What?"

"I don't want you to see—"

"Baby I've seen you before. You're gorgeous. Are you okay? Do you feel uncomfortable in some kind of way? Did I do something wr—"

"No Archie, god no. It's nothing like that, I promise. Can you just turn around?"

"Baby—"

"Okay fine. You ruined it yourself" she says as she pulls her shirt over her head and drops it to the floor.
