Chapter 35

"Daddy!" Everleigh screams as Archie comes home from work. He pick her up, tosses her into the air and kisses her cheek. "Hi sweetie"

"Hi" she giggles

"Where is mommy?"

"In the living room but she's weird today"

"Really?"

"Mhm" she mumbles as Archie sets her down. She runs to the living room. Archie follows her. He smirks when he sees his beautiful pregnant girlfriend. "Hi babe" he grins and softly pinches her side.

"Stop" Veronica says and pushes his hand away.

"Oh, mommy is grumpy" he chuckles and reaches for her hands to pulls her into his arms but she slaps his hands away.

"Stop it"

"What did I do? Come here, cuddle me" he grins and once again reaches for her.

"Archie leave me alone!" she says. Tears roll down her cheeks.

"Babe what's wrong?"

"Nothing just please leave me alone for a minute okay?" she sniffs and walks into the bedroom.

Everleigh looks up to Archie. She slowly walks towards him and pulls on his shirt so he picks her up again. "What's wrong with mommy?"

"I think mommy is a little emotional because of the baby. In one second she's really happy and in the next she's mad but we can't be upset with her. It's not her fault. We have to be really nice to mommy, always"

"Okay" Everleigh mumbles and lies her head down on Archie's shoulder. "I'm happy you're home daddy. I missed you"

"I missed you too princess. Do you want to cuddle with daddy?"

"Yeah" she giggles and wraps her arms around his neck. "Daddy, do you love me?"

"Of course I love you Ev. You're my little girl, my baby. I love you so so much. Why did you ask me that?"

"Because the baby is your real baby and I'm not. Maybe you don't love me anymore, now that you and mommy have a new baby"

"No Ev. I love you, I will always love you. Maybe you don't have my blood in your little veins but you are my daughter, my little girl okay? I'm the one who will take you to a daddy daughter dance, I will make sure no boy ever hurts you and I'm the one who will always protect you. I will love you no matter what, even when you're mean to mommy and daddy sometimes and don't listen" he smirks and tickles her. The little girl giggles and pushes his hands away.

"So, repeat what I just said, when will daddy love you?"

"Always" she smiles.

"I didn't hear you?"

"ALWAYS" Everleigh screams and claps her hands.

"Good" Archie smiles. He places a soft kiss on her cheek and holds her close to his chest. "Do you love me too?"

"Of course" Everleigh giggles "you're my favorite daddy in the world and you're my bestest friend"

"You're my best friend too" he chuckles. He kisses her cheek again before he wants to set her down but the little girl clings on to him. "No, carry me"

"Ev I want to talk to mommy"

"Can't I come too? Please, please I don't want to be alone here"

"Fine" he sighs. He walks to the bedroom and knock on the big door lightly with Everleigh still in his arms. "Baby?" he says and pushes the door open slightly. "Do you need some more alone time or can we come in, my love?"

"Come in" she smiles.

Archie places Everleigh on the bed before he crawls next to Veronica. He hesitatingly places his hand on her stomach and kisses her bump softly.

"I'm sorry Archie"

"No don't be it's okay. You're pregnant, you can be emotional"

"So you're not mad at me for yelling at you for absolutely no reason?" she asks and looks up to him.

"No Ronnie" he smiles "I love you. You're carrying my baby, you tell me what you need and I'll give it to you. Today you needed alone time"

"I love you too" she giggles and and crawls into his lap. She leans against his chest and places his hands on her stomach. I don't know what was wrong with me. I'm sorry for being a b-" she stops her sentence and looks at her daughter who sits across from them and smiles. "For being a meany"

"I said you don't have to apologize love. It's all good"

"Okay" she smiles.

"Are you girls hungry?"

"Yeah! Food!" Everleigh squeals "Pop's, Pop's, Pop's"

"Pop's?" Archie asks Veronica and kisses her cheek.

"Yes!"

It's the middle of the night when Veronica suddenly wakes up from a sharp pain in her lower stomach. She shakes Archie awake with a few tears running down her cheeks. Half asleep Archie calls his mom and asks her to come over so Everleigh is not alone. She agrees immediately. Luckily she lives down the street. He gets up and walks to Veronica. When she pulls the covers off her body, her heart stops beating. Her lower half is covered in blood.

"No! No! No!" she screams "No!" She knows what this mean.

"Let's go to the hospital Ronnie" Archie says with tears rolling down his cheeks. "The doctors can help us. They can save our baby. It's all good, it'll be fine"

Veronica's face is buried in her hands. Her whole body is shaking.

"Come on Ronnie" Archie cries and reaches for her hand. "We have to go to the hospital"

Veronica is too weak to get up so Archie carries her to the car. Mary doesn't say anything when she sees Veronica's in blood covered pants. A few tears form in her eyes.

In the car it's completely quiet. Neither of them is crying anymore. They are too shocked, too scared, too upset. Veronica holds Archie's hand, their fingers are intertwined. Her other hand is on her stomach. She can't feel anything.
Both of them know it's too late. Both of them know they lost their baby.
