Guardian Angel

Chapter 42

Veronica sits next to Archie on the couch. She's cuddled into his side with her eyes closed. He has his arms around her and slowly caresses her stomach. They came back from the hospital just a few hours ago and Veronica is very exhausted but she's happy to be home.
Everleigh lies on her stomach on the floor and looks at the picture of her favorite book.

Archie presses his lips softly to Veronica's forehead and pulls her closer. "You can lie down if you want honey"

"No I want to stay here with you and Ev" she mumbles. She grabs Archie's shirt with her hand and pulls herself up a little so her head is closer to his. Archie chuckles. He kisses her head again before he rests his on hers. "I love you"

"I love you"

"I love you more. You're my queen, my love, my life, the mommy of my kids. I love you, I love, I love you" he squeals and pulls Veronica as close as possible.

"Shhh daddy!" Everleigh says annoyed while she taps her finger against her lips. "The babies are asleep. You have to be quiet!"

"Ev sweetheart" Veronica smiles . She rubs her eyes and pulls away from Archie but reaches for his hand and intertwines their fingers "I love how much you care about your sisters but even though they are asleep we can still talk and do the things we have to do"

"Okay" Everleigh groans. She gets up from the floor and crawls onto the couch.

"You're an amazing sissy already honey. I'm so proud of you" Veronica smiles. She kisses the side of her daughter's head before she pulls her into her lap. "Stop growing up Ev"

"I'll be five very very soon" Everleigh giggles and holds her left hand up. "This old!"

"I know" Veronica whines. She places a bunch of kisses on Everleigh's cheek which makes the little girl giggle.

Suddenly they hear a quiet little cry from upstairs and just a second later both babies are crying.

Everleigh gasps. She jumps up from Veronica's lap and runs to the nursery. The twins share a room. They do have another extra room but they want the twins to share a room until they decide by themselves that they don't want to anymore. Having them in one room is just easier for Archie and Veronica. They don't have to run back and forth between two rooms. Now when they are napping and still this little, they even share a crib. The doctor told them, feeling each other's company will make the girls feel safe and probably keep them calm for longer.

When they walk into the room, Everleigh already stands on a chair, leaning over the crib slightly. Her left hand dangles over her sisters. She wants to stroke their cheeks but her arm is too short. "Shhh you little babies. I'm here now and mommy and daddy will be here in just a second. Don't be sad. I love you"

Veronica's heart melts at the sight of her eldest daughter and her two babies. She wraps her arms around Archie and leans into his side. A single tear rolls down her cheek.
"Isn't Ev the sweetest big sister in the world?" she whispers.

"She is" Archie whispers back and kisses her head. He reaches for her hand before he walks to the crib and pulls Veronica with him. Each of them pick up one baby and slowly rock them in their arms. Everleigh stands on her tiptoes. Her hands rest on Archie's stomach. She tries to look at her baby sister, Skye. Archie grins. He looks at Veronica who sees the upset look on her daughter's face as well. Archie places his hand on top of Everleigh's head. The little baby in his arms calmed down. "Do you want to hold her Ev?"

"Yes yes yes!"

"Okay sit down on the couch" he says and points over to a little grey couch next to the cribs. A pink blanket, a white teddy bear and a few pillows are on it. Veronica and Archie got it so they can sit next to each other while they rock their daughters to sleep or when Veronica has to nurse them in the middle of the night. It's more comfortable than two rocking chairs. They still have one though but in Veronica and Archie's bedroom.
