Chapter 25 (Hollypaw)
After the dream a week ago I had become jumpy and nervous, I didn't feel comfortable on border patrols or even in camp sometimes, my mind was too focused on the prophecy about the plagues coming and my brother who was still in the medicine cat den though he was way better he was still nursing his wounds whilst Leopardspots was getting worse and everyone seemed to know she would pass on though no one said anything.
I stared down at my paws where I sat beside the apprentice den, Krestelpaw was sun bathing across from me occasionally glancing over at me with an odd expression.
"What is the matter with you?" she asked gruffly "You're jumpy and zoned out all the time, it's like you know when your going to die" she snorted.
I glanced over at her a bit nervously, she was right I guess I did kind of know about a big war and dangers that were coming.
"I'm- I'm fine" I stuttered, curling my tail over my paws, Krestelpaw rolled her eyes.
"I'm not stupid!" she muttered under her breath.
I looked down at my paws, maybe I should say something to Hiddenstar, I don't think I can live with this guilt and paranoia any longer but how can I say anything? Would he believe a young apprentice like me?
"Hi there Hollypaw!" a small voice squeaked from below me, I looked down to see Bumblekit smiling widely with his two little brothers beside him and three other kits, Robinsong's young ones.
"Hello" I meowed somewhat surprised they were out of the nursery, Wildkit, Brightkit and Puddlekit were only a week and a few days old.
"This is Wildkit, Brightkit and Puddlekit" Bumblekit introduced happily.
"HI!" Wildkit yowled bouncing and shaking around my paws, I laughed he had spunk and lots of energy!
"Hi" Brightkit purred "Whose that?" she pointed to Krestelpaw.
"Oh that's Krestelpaw" I meowed.
"Oh" she meowed.
"I can't wait to be an apprenticed too" Puddlekit meowed suddenly.
"Oh yes it's very fun" I smiled "So where are you taking these three?" I asked the older kits.
"Oh were showing them around camp" Bumblekit explained.
"Speaking of..." Pinekit smiled recklessly "I'll race you too Splashfoot's den"
Right after the words were off his tongue he was gone, racing across the clearing leaving the other kits in his dust. Wildkit dropped into a crouch and leaped forward after him screaming 'Oh no you don't' as he went and just like that all the kits were gone.
I stood, deciding it would be best if I told Hiddenstar. Something inside me was telling me it would be right.
"Where are you going now?" Krestelpaw questioned smugly.
"Hiddenstar, I need to talk to him" I meowed over my shoulder.
"I knew you were hiding something" I could hear Krestelpaw nearly cry out, I shook my head.
I padded across the clearing, checking over my shoulders, for whatever reason I felt like I needed to be secretive though it was a bit crazy to think that way there was no way to stop my mind. I stopped at Hiddenstar's den and toke a breath to relax myself before calling for the leader.
"Hiddenstar" I meowed.
"Oh yes, Hollypaw, come in" Hiddenstar meowed, he sounded happy and cheerful instantly putting me at ease.
