Chapter 21

(Hollypaw's P.O.V)

The moon was rising in the sky and the cats who were chosen to go to the gathering were gathering near the entrance of camp. The cats inculded were Hiddenstar, Minnowpaw, Whitemist, Brindlepaw, Owlclaw, me, Stormbreeze, Mousepaw, Hazelstripe, Littlepaw, Poppylight and Coppertail. 

I stood beside Brindlepaw and watched as Ashpaw cautiously padded into the clearing, he caught my eyes and nodded slowly and I returned it, Brindlepaw shifted beside me. 

"I hope we don't get caught" Brindlepaw meowed. 

"I don't think so but if we do we won't get into a lot of trouble, right?" I asked suddenly nervous. "I mean there's nothing against it in the warrior code..." 

"Yeah but it's never been done before" Brindlepaw whispered anxiously, I shuffled my paws. 

"Maybe I should tell him to cancel it" I meowed. 

"That might be smart" Brindlepaw meowed, I nodded. 

I began to walk over to Ashpaw but then I was halted by Owlclaw yowling my name and telling me it was time to go, I looked over my shoulder at him then at Ashpaw as he sat grooming himself. I sighed then without a moment's hesitation I bounded to my mentor just as everyone was beginning  to leave. 

"Great" I mumbled to Brindlepaw. 

"Don't worry" she tried to reassure but she also seemed tense. 

We padded along in silence for a moment then Minnowpaw and Mousepaw skipped happily to our sides with Littlepaw trailing behind somewhat slower due to his small legs. 

"Hi!" Minnowpaw singsonged, I smiled despite my anxiousness. 

"Hey, I bet you three are excited" I meowed. 

"Yeah!" Mousepaw yowled with a hop, Brindlepaw snickered. 

"What are the other apprentices like?" Littlepaw meowed with curiosity. 

"Hmm depends on whose there but we'll tell you all about them" Brindlepaw assured, she seemed to forget her anxiety too. 

"But if Cloudpaw's there you'll like her, she's really nice" I meowed. 

"Yeah and even Spiderpaw is nice sometimes" Brindlepaw pointed out, I titled my head remembering Spiderpaw, Pouncepaw's bestfriend, he seemed OK.

"I sure hope that mousebrain won't be there" Minnowpaw whispered in my ear so no one else could hear, I smiled. 

"I told you he ain't that bad" I whispered back, she snorted. 

"Oh and Rosepaw is nice too" Brindlepaw meowed "Well before the tension between our clans, I haven't spoken with her in a long time" 

"Oh yeah I forgot about that! Do you think Fireclan will be all mean and angry?" Mousepaw asked with a glint of excitement in his eyes. 

"No besides clans can't fight on the Full Moon at gatherings" I meowed, Littlepaw nodded. 

"Yeah Hazelstripe was telling me that" he meowed. 

"Besides Fireclan doesn't seem to be fit condition" Brindlepaw muttered, she was right though she didn't know about the chosen cats and how bad the sickness was or the starvation in Fireclan she could see them when they came to the gatherings. Thin, weak and sick, not in good fighting conditions. 

We appreaded in the gathering hollow I could hear the three new apprentices gasping at how large it was, arriving at the same time was Stormclan with a happy Amberstar in lead, hopefully some good news.
