Chapter 28
Rain pelted the ground with ferocity and a strong, cold wind ruffled my fur. I was shaking beneath my usually warm coat and puffs of white mist curled out from my mouth and nose due to the cold weather. New-Leaf brought new prey and bad storms Owlclaw had told me and now I was experiencing it first paw.
The last few days hadn't been pleasent. The weather had been gloomy and cold and so was everyone else especially after Poppylight had been killed by the fox... The foxes were our plages and Hiddenstar was preparing for another attack, he was furious over the death of another clanmate and it was making him bitter, something that didn't suit our leader well. But at least Ashpaw had come back to training and left the medicine cat den.
The whole clan was cowarding in the clearing, huddling against the rain and the cold. Hiddenstar had called an official clan meeting but everyone seemed unhappy about it. Whitemist was shaking beneath the Snow Rock as we waited for Hiddenstar to start talking.
"Whitemist, are you satisfied with Brindlepaw's training and do you think she is ready to become a full warrior?" Hiddenstar asked, his voice cutting through the loud rain. Everyone seemed a bit surprised and I was too, I had no idea Brindlepaw was becoming a warrior today! I looked over at her, her eyes were wide and happy -shocked but happy-.
"Yes she is ready!" Whitemist meowed, her voice clearly proud.
"Very well then, Brindlepaw step forward" Hiddenstar called out.
Brindlepaw nearly skipped through the crowd, she didn't look cold anymore and she seemed to take no mind to the rain that was beating against her.
"Brindlepaw do you agree to uphold our noble code and protect and defend your clan and clanmates even with the cost of your own life?" he asked softly but his eyes were as stormy as the sky above his head, he wasn't the same leader.
"I do" Brindlepaw replied happily taking no mind to Hiddenstar's placid eyes.
"Then I, Hiddenstar leader of Iceclan with the power granted to me by my warrior ancestors in Starclan and the element of water that protects our clan, I give you your warrior name" he didn't even pause, he had taken his time in planning her name "Brindlepaw from this moment on your new name shall be Brindlefur, Iceclan honors your kindness and open-mindedness and we welcome you as a full warrior"
The clan burst into instant cheering, me and Ashpaw screaming loudest of all! Brindlefur was a beautiful name and suited my best friend well. Brindlefur looked absolutely happy and though I loved seeing her in that way it made me a bit sad knowing my best friend would be leaving the apprentice den and moving on becoming a warrior, would she leave me behind like Coppertail did?
Before I could step up and congratulate her, Hiddenstar stopped the cheering with a quick flick of his tail.
"Blizzardchaser, are you satisfied with Krestelpaw's training and do you think she is ready to become a full warrior?" Hiddenstar asked the large tom.
"Yes, she is prepared" Blizzardchaser meowed casually but his voice conveyed pride.
"Good, Krestelpaw come forward" he instructed.
Krestelpaw slipped through the crowd and stood before Hiddenstar, the rain made her light brown fur slick to her body. She looked thin, gracefully and very beautiful and her large green eyes seemed to be glowing with confidence.
"Krestelpaw do you agree to uphold our noble code and protect and defend your clan and clanmates even with the cost of your own life?" Hiddenstar asked seriously, Krestelpaw nodded before answering.
