Chapter 38
(Hollyheart's P.O.V)
The moon was up and so were we. Toby seemed a bit angry about having to wake up at night but he insisted on showing us out and making sure we left; Pounceclaw said he was being shifty but I commented that the old tom was just being cautious if not a bit overprotective and weary.
"Good bye" we all meowed to Toby.
"Bye wild cats" he muttered with a flick of his tail "I hope your journey ends well and you find what you're looking for... whatever that may be" his voice wasn't unkind but held a sarcastic edge to it.
"I hope you stay well, Toby" Echobreeze meowed.
"Yeah, yeah" Toby grumbled before stalking back down his ally and disappearing into the shadows.
"Well then" Minnowpaw meowed with a flick of her white tail.
"Let's just get going" I meowed.
Together we padded down the quiet hard path. In the night everything was still expect a few passing monsters but we still keep a sharp eye out for any hostile ally cats that might leap from a dark ally. So far so good; I thought to myself.
The night was a bit cooler and distantly I could smell rain; I never minded the rain, I enjoyed the fresh feeling and smell after the long showers and how the forest seemed to shine in the sunlight thanks to left over rain droplets but it was annoying to hunt in I did have to admit.
We followed the hard paths straight and after a while we came across flat valleys and meadows instead of towering two-leg nests and stinking stone paths. In the distance a tall, massive forest loomed above the flat valley.
"Thank Starclan" Pounceclaw sighed "I can breathe"
We laughed but I felt the same way; the two-leg village as Toby called it seemed suffocating now that I could breathe the fresh, crisp clean air and prey scent finally filled the breeze around me.
"But we haven't been able to out walk those rain clouds" I meowed indicating towards the dark grey clouds brooding above our heads.
"Maybe we should find shelter?" Shalelight suggested.
"Or we could wait until we reach that forest there" Minnowpaw meowed.
"I think Minnowpaw's right; it may not even rain yet" Echobreeze meowed.
So we continued along in the moonlight; listening to the wind and the prey as I went. Shortly we were at the entrance of the forest canopy; the forest was black in the night and from where we stood we could see that our star would be blocked.
"Hmph" Echobreeze said with a puzzled look.
"Maybe we should try going around it?" Minnowpaw suggested.
"No it's too wide..." Echobreeze meowed.
"Well then this should be the end" Pounceclaw meowed. "I mean we beat the torrent, the beasts and the two-leg village so that's three our 'meeting' spot should be near"
"Pounceclaw is right" I meowed "If Starclan was not false this should be our final destination"
"Alright let's get this journey finished then" Shalelight meowed with a joking glint in her eyes.
We padded into the woods. It was stark black, musky and damp the tree canopy blocked most off the night above and if it stormed we might be able to escape getting wet from the rain or battered by the wind so I was content plus the prey was plentiful.
