The Girl Behind The Mask

Chapter 24

     Chiyo was on high alert as soon as she heard the sound of a branch snapping, she pulled out a kunai her eyes waiting to see if someone was around. With her three teammates behind her she was determined to keep them safe.

     "Midnight, did you hear that?" she asked, the wolf nodded. Suddenly, three people stepped out from the trees. Their headbands were the same one that Orochimaru had been wearing with his disguise.

      "This can't be good" she said, it was two men and a woman who looked down at her with smirks on their faces. Chiyo's eyes flickered to the ground where Sakura had set a trap, it wasn't much but just maybe it would be enough to keep them from getting too close.

     "Wake that kid up, we want to fight him" the one in front said pointing towards Sasuke. The mask he was wearing was one similar to Kakashi's and he had some sort of device on his arm.

     "What makes you think I'm going to let you get anywhere near him" she growled. The woman chuckled,

     "What? you're going to defeat us, on your own?" she asked in a mocking tone. Chiyo cursed at the tired feeling in her body, team seven's time in the forest had given them little time to rest and it was really starting to take affect. Despite that Chiyo drew her sword unwilling to just let them walk over her. She charged towards them sword in hand, the man in front chuckled extending his arm. Suddenly sound waves shot out towards her causing her to be blown back. Chiyo dug her heels into the dirt stopping herself from hitting a tree. She felt something drip from her ear bringing her hand up to it. When she looked she spotted blood,

   "he uses" she winced in the middle of the scentence.

   "Sound to attack" she finished, Chiyo grimaced her ear starting to ring.

     "Chi-Chiyo-chan?!" Sakura was suddenly next to her.

      "Are you ok" she asked,

     "Sakura, stay back, these guys are dangerous" Chiyo warned.

     "You're hurt" Sakura said,

     "It's not that bad, stay back and watch over those two"

    "What the little girls can't protect themselves" the female sound ninja mocked. Chiyo stood up feeling a throbbing pain in her side. Though Midnight mostly healed it it wasn't completely gone. She ignored the feeling running towards the ninja, one of them threw a punch but she seemingly disappeared before reappearing behind them. She landed a kick on one of the men's back knocking him to the ground.

     "Damn bitch" the other cursed pulling out a kunai. He grabbed Chiyo by the arm catching her off guard. He yanked her back with an intense look on his face stabbing the kunai into her side where the wound had been healed. She cried out in pain blood starting to seep through her top. The male threw her towards Sakura who cought her before she could sustain anymore injuries.

     "Chiyo..." she said in a worried tone. She ripped off some of the fabric of her outfit using it to stop the bleeding. Midnight allowed the black haired girl to lean against her, Chiyo grimaced at the fact that she had once again been injured.

     "I need to...rest" she said her eyes closing.

     Chiyo opened her eyes finding herself on Midnight's back. She looked around surprised to see that Lee along with his team, Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji were all there. Sakura ran over a relieved smile on her face.

     "You're awake" she said, Chiyo slowly sat up giving Sakura a reassuring glance.

     "I'll be fine, Sakura-chan" she said.

     "What happened?" Chiyo asked, Skaura frowned a bit.

     "Lee came to help along with his team. So did Shikamaru and the others. Sasuke woke up and...." she trailed off, Chiyo raised an eyebrow. She had a feeling that the pink haired girl wasn't telling her something.

     "Is everything ok?" she asked, Sakura shook her head plastering a smile back onto her face.

     "Yeah, everything is fine" she said, the black haired girl remained quiet. Chiyo got off of Midnight's back her injury having been healed again.

    "You need to be more careful" the wolf scolded. Chiyo sighed quietly to herself.

  "I promise I'll be more careful" she said. Midnight nodded disappearing into a cloud of smoke.
