"Alright, why don't we work on your hand to hand combat" Chiyo suggested. Midnight sat a distance away watching the two girls intently, Sakura nodded a determined look on her face.
"All you have to do is land a hit on me" the black haired girl explained. Sakura smiled standing across from her friend.
"I won't hold back" she said,
"I hope not" Chiyo smiled. Sakura ran towards the girl throwing a punch to her face. The black haired girl moved her head to the side grabbing Sakura's arm, the pink haired girl was knocked to the ground with a thud. She frowned laying there for a moment,
"Don't give up yet, try again" Chiyo said holding out her hand. She helped Sakura up,
"remember be confident in yourself" Chiyo told her.
------------------------------------------------------------
Sakura was thrown to the ground wincing a bit as she did,"You're getting better" Chiyo smiled. Her green eyes widened a bit at the compliment. Sakura stood up finding herself filled with more determination.
"I'm gonna take you down" she said holding her hands up.
"That's the spirit" Chiyo said as the pink haired girl ran towards her once more. She pulled her right hand back throwing a punch towards the black haired girl. Chiyo dodged only for Sakura's other hand to make contact with her face. She stumbled before quickly regaining her balance. Chiyo swept her leg towards the girl knocking her off her balance.
"Better, but you're not quite there yet" Chiyo said as Sakura stood up breathing heavily. The two girls continued to train until sunset.
------------------------------------------------------------
Chiyo felt her back come in contact with the ground wincing as it did. Her eyes looked up at Sakura's with a smile on her face. Meanwhile, the pink haired girl was surprised at her victory."Good job" Chiyo praised as Sakura held her hand out towards the black haired girl. Standing up Chiyo wiped the dirt from her face and clothes. She then looked over at Sakura a smile remaining on her face. It was silent for a moment before Chiyo spoke up.
"Good, job you beat me" she smiled, Sakura looked down at the ground for a moment before looking back at her teammate.
"Thank you" she said suddenly wrapping her arms around the girl pulling her into a hug. Chiyo at first, was surprised but relaxed after a moment. Sakura pulled away sitting down against a tree.
"There's no need to thank me" Chiyo said joining her. The two girls looked up at the sky neither saying a word as they both took in the view.
"Chiyo-chan" Sakura's voice caught the female's attention. She looked over at the pink haired female head cocked to the side.
"I've been meaning to ask you something."
"Go ahead" the masked girl said, Sakura was hesitant as she wondered if she would be overstepping a boundary. Finally, she made up her mind,
"Why do you wear your mask all the time?" she questioned. Chiyo, caught a bit off guard by the question sat there for a moment, thinking.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked" Sakura sputtered out an apology. The black haired girl shook her head,
"It's fine, it's just that no one has really asked about it before" she explained her fingers running across the edge of the mask.
"It was a gift actually, from my mom and dad" she said. Sakura nodded,
"After they were killed I made a promise. I swore that I would wear this mask until I became a worthy ninja, a ninja they would be proud of" she finished.
"I'm sure they would be proud of you now" Sakura said.
"I still have room for improvement" Chiyo admitted.
"But you're really strong, stronger than I am" the pink haired girl said quietly.
"You shouldn't put yourself down like that Sakura-chan. One day you'll be a great ninja, just believe in yourself" Chiyo encouraged.
"Thank.......i needed to hear that" the pink haired girl said.
"Hey, why don't we get some lunch to celebrate" the black haired girl suggested getting up to her feet.
"Yeah, I would like that" Sakura said following after her.
