The Girl Behind The Mask

Chapter 9

     "Chiyo, do you have everything you need?" Midnight questioned, the female nodded as she made sure she had all the weapons and necessities she would need for the mission.

"Yep" she smiled, the wolf nodded.

  "Good, then we should go. We don't want to be late" Midnight stated. Chiyo nodded as she left her home heading towards the village gate.

    "Good everyone's here" Kakashi said, the man who they were supposed to be protecting scoffed.

"How am I supposed to trust them with my life, especially him" he jabbed his finger in Naruto's direction.

"You shouldn't underestimate me! I'm gonna be the hokage one day" Naruto confidently said. His comment made the drunk scoff as Chiyo sighed to herself. The bridge builder started taunting Naruto which only served to fuel the blond's anger.

"Don't worry, I'm here so you won't have to worry" Kakashi reassured him. He seemed satisfied with that as the group began their journey.

  "You seem happy, Naruto-kun" Chiyo commented.

"This is my first time leaving the village! I'm a traveler now" he smiled. The black haired female smiled as well upon seeing Naruto's enthusiasm.

    "Tazuna, are there any ninja in the mist village" Sakura asked as the group continued moving forward. Chiyo only paid attention to some of the conversation as the bridge builder explained that there weren't any ninja in his home land.

"That means this mission shouldn't be too difficult" Chiyo said.

"It is only a C-rank mission" Midnight chimed in. The black haired female nodded.

"But something feels-" she started to say when she suddenly stepped in a puddle of water. She looked down confused, 

"It hasn't rained in a while, there's got to be something going on here" she said quietly. Chiyo looked over at Kakashi who nodded while giving her a knowing look. Both of them had figured out that there was more to the mission then either had realized before. The group only made it only a few feet away from the mysterious puddle before two men appeared from within it, chains with sharp blade attached to the ends wrapped themselves around Kakashi. With a single pull his body was torn apart.

"Kakashi!" Naruto yelled, remaining calm Chiyo pulled put a kunai keeping a tight grip on the weapon. The ninja turned their attention towards team seven,

"one down" the first spoke.

  "Five to go" the other finished his partner finished. One of them charged towards Sasuke the other focusing his attention on Naruto. Seeing the blond freeze up in the heat of the moment Chiyo jumped into action, she threw her kunai towards the chain knocking it to the side and pinning the weapon into a nearby tree, Sasuke did the same leaving the two strangers unable to do any damage. The men tried to pry the weapons from the bark but the blades were stuck. The black haired female let out a sigh of relief as things finally became calm again.

   "Huh?" Chiyo looked up to see Kakashi reappear unharmed.

"He must have used a replacement jutsu" Midnight said. The female nodded as Kakashi looked at his team.

"Sorry, I didn't know you would freeze up" he apologized. He turned to Sasuke and Chiyo who looked slightly shaken up but otherwise calm.

  "Good job Sasuke, Chiyo" he praised the pair. The black haired female focused on Naruto who was still a bit shocked himself.

  "Are you ok? Naruto-kun" she asked checking for any injuries he may have sustained during the attack. Naruto nodded a frown on his face, she smiled nodding quietly to herself. She then focused her attention on the bridge builder.

"I have a feeling that this is more than a C-rank mission" Midnight said, Chiyo nodded,

"we ran into enemy ninja, this is at least an A-rank" she explained.

"Are you going to say anything" The wolf asked. The girl shook her head at this question,

"I have a feeling that Kakashi will handle that" she said. She looked over at the male who was looking at Tazuna an eyebrow raised in suspicion.

"We should get going" the team's teacher said looking around the area.

"Let's hope we don't run into anymore problems" Chiyo said to herself.

      Chiyo climbed onto the boat as her team began to move across the foggy body of water. She looked at her reflection in the water deep in thought about how hard this mission was actually going to be.
