When someone flirts with you

Aragorn had thrown a huge feast and ball at Gondor after his wedding with Arwen. Everyone was joyous.All the people were content, safe and happy to have Aragorn as their king. Lots of people from Rivendell had also arrived. One of whom happened to be my best friend growing up- Elorian. He was a handsome and extremely capable and strong elf of Rivendell. We had grown together and trained together. We were best friends. Although i had been avoiding him ever since he got here. I knew that he had this affection towards me since childhood but i did not felt that way for him at all. And now with Legolas I just did not want Elorian to get sad.

It was evening when Legolas and I were in our room, getting ready for the ball. Arwen somehow convinced me to wear a beautiful dark red velvet dress.

I let my hair fall down on my shoulders and put on my mother's tiara. Both Arwen and I had one. I smiled to myself as I looked into the mirror.
'How do I look meleth? ' I asked Legolas, turning around. He was wearing a red velvet tunic to match me and he was looking so very handsome. Legolas's eyes widened as he looked at me from top to bottom.
'Wow y/n you look absolutely stunning my love, it is not fair that all other men will get to see you like this' he said as I laughed. I kissed his lips and said, 'But I only belong to you'.
As we entered the ballroom everyone looked at me. I could see Pipin and Boromir blushing as Gimli whistled from across the room. Legolas put his hands on my waist protectively as we entered the room. We were soon joined by the fellowship and other elves. We drank and sang and danced. Suddenly I saw Elorian waving and coming towards me. I turned around to look for Legolas but he was in the other corner of the room with Aragorn. I smiled as Elorian approached me. He took my hand and kissed it. I could see he was blushing.
'I've missed you so much mellon nin, you look absolutely beautiful today, like you always have' he said with a sincere smile in his eyes.
'How have you been Elorian, I have missed our friendship too' I said to him smiling. We started talking and the awkwardness soon went away. We were back to being the best friends we were. I could tell that he still loved me. I needed to tell him that I loved Legolas now but I just couldn't tell it to him and break his heart. We laughed and talked so much. Little did I know that we were being watched by someone.

Legolas's POV

I clenched my jaw as I saw y/n laughing away with another elf. It seemed like they had known each other forever. Boromir put a hand on my shoulder and said 'looks like that handsome young elf is here to give you competition'. To be true, I was a bit scared. I trusted y/n but she has only known me for a few months whereas it looked like she had known the other elf forever.
'Aye laddie don't scare the little elf' Gimli said laughing as Boromir joined in. My gaze never left them. I saw how he look at her and touched her shoulder from time to time.
'That's Elorian, one of the best elves from Rivendell and y/n's childhood best friend. They have known each other for hundreds of years. I have even heard that he truly loves and desires her' Aragorn said to me.
'You scare me mellon' I said to him as I turned around and returned my gaze on y/n and Elorian. I decided to go and talk to y/n and ask her if she had told Elorian about us.

'And then we also defeated the cave troll' I heard y/n say. 'I had always known you were the bravest mellon nin, and also the most beautiful. If you don't mind, I had to tell you something' Elorian said taking her hand in his. I clenched my fist as I approached them right on time.

I saw Legolas approaching us and I just hoped in my mind that he wouldn't say anything it front of Elorian.
Elorian had taken my hand and was about to say something which seemed important when Legolas interrupted him, 'y/n! Where have you been, I've been looking all over for you'.
Seeing him Elorian left my hand.
'Well I've been over here since always Legolas, I was taking to Elorian, a dear friend of mine' I told him as Elorian wrapped his hands around my waist and greeted Legolas.
'You must be the Prince of Mirkwood, I've heard a lot about you' Elorian said but Legolas's eyes were fixed on Elorians hand on my waist.
'Can we talk y/n? In private' he asked me as I nodded and went with him.
'What is it meleth? ' I asked him with a smile.
'You have been talking a lot with that elf since you got here. It's almost as if you've forgotten about me. Did you at least tell him about us' he said.
'How can I forget about you Legolas, you know that's not true. And about telling him about us... I've been meaning to, but I couldn't get the opportunity, don't worry love, I'll tell him soon, I'm sorry' I told him.
'Yes but-' Legolas was about to say but he was cut off my Elorian who was asking me for a dance. It was a ball after all. I couldn't reject him so I mouthed Legolas a sorry as I took Elorians hand and went to the dance floor. As we started dancing I could feel Legolas glaring at us.
'So y/n, the thing I've been meaning to say is that I've always loved you mellon. Since we were just children. Your beauty and kindness amazed me every single day. It was terrible, these few months, in Rivendell without you. All I could do was think about you, and that's why I know that you are the one whom I want to spend my life with. So y/n will you-' he said.
'No Elorian, I'm so very sorry but I do not feel that way for you, I am in love with someone else, you are a dear friend of mine and I did not want to hurt you and that's why I had not told you all this while. I'm so sorry Elorian' I said with sadness in my eyes.
'No y/n, thi-this can't be, I truly love you y/n, I'll keep you the happiest, please don't reject my proposal' Elorian said hopelessly.
'I'm sorry mellon but I can't I'm sorry' I said.
'Atleast let me kiss you one last time' Elorian said as he leaned in to kiss me. I was too shocked to react. His lips barely touched mine when he was thrown to the ground by a punch, from Legolas.
'Did you not hear when she said she is in love with someone else? ' he said, anger evident in his eyes. He turned around and held my face and started kissing me. I melted into the kiss and his hands travelled down to my waist. After what seemed like a quite long time Legolas pulled away.
'Please listen here everyone, I have an announcement to make' he said as the people gathered around us.
'Y/n you are the only person for whom I've ever felt this way. You have shown me what love truly is and how much power it can hold. I've waited so long for this but I can't anymore, meleth, you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, you are the one I want to have children with, and you are the one whom I want to sail away to the undying lands with, its you and it always have been and it will be just you and me, till the end of time, and that's why y/n, will you again make me the luckiest man in the entire middle earth? Will you marry me?' Legolas said kneeling down with his mother's ring in his hand. Hearing all this brought tears to my eyes. He was the one for me. He was the one I could even die for. He was the one my soul belonged to.
'Yes Legolas, I will marry you' I said as he put on the ring on my finger and kissed me. Everyone cheered on and the Fellowship congratulated me. Father also gave us his blessings.
I couldn't wait to embark on this new chapter in my life with Legolas always by my side.
'I love you so much meleth nin ' he said to me, looking into my eyes, staring into my soul.
'I love you too Legolas' I said smiling, happy tears in my eyes.
