~To The Story~

"It's rare for you to be here apart from working."

You raised your head from your homework and saw Isogai just hovering near your table, giving you that friendly smile that he always does.

You sheepishly smiled at him. "I didn't want to go to the library. And I feel a lot better doing homework in a familiar area."

"You sure have a lot," Isogai commented, eyes glazing over at the number of sheets worksheets and textbooks you have out.

"Yeah," you drawled out. "I should have gone to a less uptight school. But I know my parents wouldn't want that."

"They just want you to get the best academics as possible."

"Yeah, I know." You sighed sadly, your shoulders slumped downwards.

"Well, anyway, good luck." Isogai parted you a friendly wave before departing to help out the next table.

Eyes back at your work, you tried to remember what you were going to write down for an answer. Normally when you do your homework, you would try to get through it is as quickly as possible. Now, however, you were putting more effort. All because of a boy?

'What happened to me?'

Maybe Naoki was right. Maybe Gakushu has you wrapped around his finger. You felt like you were just like many of the other girls who are crushing on the strawberry blonde.

You stared at your paper with a deadpan expression. You then sighed before continuing with your work. Oh well, your teachers do encourage you to do better anyway. Also, it couldn't hurt to try and impress Gakushu.

While you were doing your things, Isogai kept working; cleaning spilled drinks, wiping down and used seats, and responding to any of the customer's needs no matter how needless and ridicules it was. While doing his work, a familiar person he knew walked into the cafe.

Eyes turning the door, he saw Kayano walking in.

"Ah, Kayano. What's up?" He smiled at his old classmate.

"Hi, Isogai." Kayano waved at the boy and returning the smile. "Thought I pop by and get some sweets before I head home."

"Sure." The boy nodded, his smile never wavering. His eyes wandered off to scan around the area, trying to see if there is an empty spot for his friend to sit down. "Huh. It's a full house today."

Kayano figured it is best to come back later and not trouble Isogai even more. But just as she was going to open her mouth, Isogai spoke up.

"Hey, (y/n)-san." From Isogai's voice, you craned your head up from your work. "Do you mind if Kayano takes a seat with you?"

Said girl did a friendly wave, trying to be friendly and not give out a bad impression.

"No, I don't mind." You said. You were almost done with your work anyway, and you could use the break.

You saw how Isogai gave a smile that says all good. Kayano mouthed the words 'thanks' before tracking her way to where you are.

"Hello," Kayano said with a grateful smile as she took the seat in front of you. "Thanks for letting me sit here."

"No problem. It does get pretty full around this hour," You assured her, tucking away your last worksheet into your notebook and set it off to the side. "And I don't mind company."

"So, you're (y/n)-san?" Kayano asked, eyes pointing at you, "Sugino talks about you. The two of you seem such good friends."

You smiled. "Yeah, that's me and I like to think we're good friends. We have known each other since elementary school."
