~To The Story~
Sugino had never been this close to wanting to strangle someone and thank them at the same time. The fact that the someone in question was you honestly shouldn't have surprised him anymore, but it still did.
Because what the hell is this?!
"Thank you for inviting me, (y/n)-san." Kanzaki smiled so angelically as he sat next to her, trying his best not to faint or combust from pure joy that he was sitting right next to his crush.
"You're welcome." You smiled innocently, spinning the straw in your water.
Sugino's eye twitched.
Yesterday, when you had called him, you'd sounded normal enough. You told him you wanted to treat him to dinner as an early birthday celebration. He'd assumed it would just be the two of you.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Just two childhood friends hanging out.
That was normal.
This?
This was a setup.
A very calculated, very cruel setup.
He almost ran out of there the second he realized what you were up to. And he would have, if it weren't for Kanzaki immediately spotting him and smiling. That smile that always made his brain short-circuit.
"(Y/n), can I talk to you for a minute?" Sugino said, smiling annoyingly, trying not to snap while there were other people here.
'Uh-oh. I'm in trouble.' You thought amusingly. "Sure thing, buddy." You acted like you weren't about to get some kind of lecture. "Be right back." You said as you slid out of the booth.
"Ah..." Shoyo spoke up, clearly wanting to voice that he wasn't comfortable being left alone with someone he just met.
But, as expected, you ignored him and followed Sugino.
The white-haired boy sighed.
He thought he would be stuck in this awkward silence for a hot minute, but then Kanzaki spoke, more than happy to try to make the boy feel less uncomfortable.
"Are you and (y/n)-san dating?" Kanzaki asked harmlessly.
Shoyo flinched, not expecting her to break the ice with that question.
Shoyo sheepishly smiled. "No. She just asked me to be her date for tonight."
Shoyo didn't put much thought into it when you asked him to be your date for tonight. He was aware that your friends would be here, but now that he was here, he felt nervous.
When you and Sugino were out of earshot, he snapped. "What the hell?!"
"What?" You said, feigning an innocent look. "I got you a date with your crush. You should be kissing my feet right about now."
"You could have given me a heads-up! I would have dressed up better!"
"You look fine." You waved him off. "Besides..." A laugh threatened to come out of your mouth. "I wanted to see the look on your face." You snickered mischievously, pointing obnoxiously at him.
Sugino frowned, clearly torn between irritation and the very reluctant urge to laugh with you. Finally, he dragged a hand down his face and let out a long, suffering sigh.
"How did you even get her number?" He asked, slowly getting over his annoyance.
You took your phone out of your pocket, expecting him to ask that question. "I asked Karma-kun."
