~To The Story~

You are going to cry. You are seriously going to break down into a fit of tears right here in this cafe in front of all these people. Actually, forget crying, you might die right here.

And no, you are not being dramatic.

"It's like they are trying to kill us." You mumbled, blankly staring at all of your unfinished assignments.

School starts in less than two weeks, and yet you still haven't finished any of the homework you were given to do during the summer. Whenever you would put it off, you would just tell yourself. 'Oh, it's not much, I can get it done in a few days.'

But when you actually see it and do the work, you're forced to admit that procrastinating wasn't such a good idea. Like you do every year. Some might have learned their lesson, but not you, apparently.

"Aw, c'mon." Naoki smiles cheerfully. "We still have another two weeks left."

He was, of course, being optimistic despite being in the same boat as you. Not that you're complaining. You could definitely use his positivity. And it does make you feel better that you're not alone in this.

When you called him last night regarding the homework, he laughed and said he hadn't done anything either. So, you both decided to meet up in the cafe near Naoki's apartment to get a chunk of it done.

The first option was to go to the library, but they didn't have coffee or allow any food or drinks. Sure, a library would be quieter to work in, but again, no coffee or food allowed, so that's a huge no for you.

"There is no way I'm going to finish this in two weeks." You sighed and rubbed your face.

Ugh. You haven't even started, and already you feel like dying. You were tempted to forget about it and worry about it tomorrow, but all that would do is give you less time than you already have.

You realized that staring at your assignment isn't going to get you anywhere. You reluctantly picked up your pencil and started to write.

'I can do this.' You tried to motivate yourself.

You can practically hear Gakushu telling you how irresponsible it was to put your homework off until the last minute.

Honestly, you have thought about asking for his help. Yeah, he's strict, but his methods work, and you would probably get at least half of your assignments done with his help.

As tempting as it was, though, you didn't reach out to him. Besides, he did say he was going to be busy for a while since school is starting soon, so no reason to bother him.

You can definitely do this. And you have Naoki. With the two of you, you're sure you can finish at least half.

You looked at Naoki's work. "Er... How did you get that answer?"

"Uh..." Naoki scratched his head with his pencil. "I don't know."

Yeah, this ain't going so well. It both managed to answer some questions smoothly without many issues, but there were still a lot of questions that felt impossible to solve.

Naoki was the most optimistic one among you, but after working through the same assignment for almost an hour, he was starting to feel his brain fry.

You scribbled an answer, erased it, then scribbled it again. Across from you, Naoki was humming some song under his breath and drawing a tiny cat in the corner of his worksheet.

You could practically hear Gakushu's voice in your head: Focus. Show your work properly. You had all summer for this.

'Get out of my head, you stupid nerd.' You smiled annoyingly.
