~To The Story~

It hasn't been that long since you've confessed to Gakushu, and you knew a broken heart takes time to heal. But, sometimes, you find yourself wishing you could move on from him faster. It bothered you that you were purposely not talking to him because of your decision. You were recently watching a movie with your parents, and it show the two love interests going to a firework festival. Watching the young couple made you wish you were going to the festival with the strawberry blond.

You didn't finish watching the rest of the movie. A part of all that sadness and melancholy, there was a bit of anger. Knowing it wasn't healthy to have that, you went to your room to cool off, telling your parents you weren't feeling well.

You know you shouldn't be mad at him for rejecting you. Being mad at someone for not accepting your feelings is selfish and immature. Yet, you were. If he did reciprocate your feelings, you would have gone to the festival with him. You wouldn't feel as shitty as you do now.

You allowed yourself to vent to Naoki, just to let the anger out. It worked. Somewhat.

You're still not happy, but at least you took some of your anger out.

"Maybe you should try casual dating?" Naoki would say with a slight chuckle.

It was only a joke. He knew it, you knew it, yet, Naoki felt the need to explain it when he heard an odd silence from your end.

"Y... you know I'm just kidding, right?" Naoki chuckled.

"Yeah. I know... I was just..."

You paused and pressed your lips together.

You were just wondering if you should get a boyfriend. No casual dating, no hookups. Just have a typical high school relationship. With a normal boy. Someone who isn't the equivalent of a celebrity.

But, since there was no one else on your radar, you dropped the idea entirely.

"Never mind," you sighed.

You Naoki changed topics and spoke until it was late.

In the days leading up to the festival, you thought about reaching out to Gakushu. For no real reason. You just wanted to talk to him. You would often repeatedly type and then delete your answers, unsure of what to say.

It would help if Gakushu texted you first, but he rarely does so in the first place, so you weren't going to hold your breath.

When you text Miho, you would often think about asking her what Gakushu is up to or if she has spoken to him lately. Of course, you didn't, because, for one thing, it made you feel like a stalker. And the second reason is because you know it would just upset you if she talked about him.

You were glad Miho tried her best not to bring him up.

And before you knew it, it was time for the fireworks festival.

Too bad you work that day.

Naoki and Shoyo offered to wait until your last shift ended, but you thought it was unfair to them. You told them to start the fun without you and that you'll meet them there.

And when your last shift ended, you immediately rushed back home to change into your Yukata and do your hair. You texted Naoki telling him you were on your way and to meet you near the Torii.

After a ten-minute train ride, you were standing where you said you were going to be.

The festival was already in full swing by the time you got there. Kids were rushing in, with their parents trying to catch up to them. Teenagers were talking amongst themselves, unable to decide where they should go first, and each stall had a line up with eager customers.
