*Ellis' POV*
——————
I heard birds chirping outside, I looked outside and saw it was getting bright, I was exhausted from staying up for watch but I didn't want to wake Nick up because he needed rest. He spent the last week watching me and Ellie, he barely slept. So I've let him sleep even though I'm exhausted.

I let them sleep for another hour and then I woke them up, shaking them gently and whispering in a way that I wouldn't startle them. Nick opened his eyes and seemed confused as to where he was for a second, then realization hit him, and he sighed.

"Hun, we gotta go if we're gonna make it to the next safe house by nightfall. We won't know how long it'll take us to get there." I said, he nodded and gathered our things. I gently shook Ellie awake. "Darling, it's time to get up" I said as kindly as I could. She nodded and rubbed her eyes sleepily and grabbed her stuff animal and her backpack and we walked out.

*Time Skip to Kiddie land*

We were walking and then just as we passed by two tents, there was a big banner with "Kiddie Land" on it, every memory from my childhood came back, this was my favourite place to come to as a kid. I'd come here during the summer and run around, ride all the rides over and over, have cotton candy. All sorts of stuff.

I smiled looking at all the rides, we went and sat at a picnic table, Ellie colouring in her colouring book. I looked around more, making sure nothing or nobody was around. Nick placed his hand on top of mine, I looked at him confused and he smiled, I returned the smile. "It's fine Hun, nobody is around and it's been quiet these past couple of days. Don't get worked up. We'll be fine okay?" He said, reassuring me. I nodded and smiled. Ellie looked at us, confusion clear on her face.

"Daddy, why are you and Ellis holding hands?" She asked, Nick pulled his hand away and looked towards Ellie. "Because, Ellis felt scared sweetie. I just wanted to make sure he was okay." He replied, she giggled and nodded and continued to colour this bird template that was in the colouring book. She was very good at it for a five year old. Colouring inside the lines. I was a bit impressed.

"Ellis, we need to talk about this soon." Nick said, sounding serious and a tiny bit concerned as well. I looked to him and nodded. After another 10 minutes of sitting there, we continued on.

Only way to continue on, was into a building and then climb up onto the roof. I made sure Ellie stayed close by to me every step of the way. I didn't want her to wander off or something or someone easily grab her. We came to the other side of Kiddie land where there was the big bumpy slides. I looked at Nick.

"Reckon we can go down the slide?" I asked, he shrugged. "You and Ellie could, I'll walk down the steps." He said. I shrugged and I crouched a little, to talk to Ellie. "Hey darling, want to ride down the slide?" I asked, she nodded and sat down, I sat beside her and we pushed ourselves and went down the bumpy slide, she giggled and then we got to the bottom. Where Nick was waiting for us. I helped her stand up and she laughed. "Daddy did you see me?" She asked Nick, sounding so happy and excited. He chuckled and nodded. "Yes I did see you honey, was it fun?" He asked, she nodded and laughed. We continued on walking until we realized that we had to start this merry go around thing to get through, to the safe house.

"How are we gonna do this? There's no where safe for Ellie to hide without one of them things finding her and hurting her. And I don't think it's a good idea if we take her with the horde that would come. Unless we make it as quick as possible." I said, Nick thought about it. "I can carry her and you protect us and then we can shut this off quick." He said, I shrugged and nodded. "I don't have a better idea, so I guess it's better then anything else." I said.

I started the thing and it made a very loud noise, the screeches and cries of the infected were heard and we ran as fast as possible to the switch. I shut it off and I had Nick stand behind me, with him holding Ellie in his arms. I shot at every infected that ran at us. Eventually they all died, we ran to the safe house. Which was a tunnel of love. I chuckled as I realized it was our safe house for the night.

Nick laid Ellie down on her sleeping bag in the middle of the room, against a wall. We sat on the tables, as Ellie laid there and soon drifted off into sleep. He sighed. "I don't know what to do Hun, she's too young to understand what we have. But at the same time I feel as though she will understand sooner then she should, with everything happening she'll have to learn things faster then a normal child would." He said. I nodded.

"We'll explain it to her soon my love, whenever you feel the time is right. Until then, we can keep things the way they have been. Okay?" I replied. He smiled and nodded. I kissed his cheek and then went to lay down, exhausted from the eventful day. We were safe in this safe house, so Nick laid down as well to rest. What a day. It's gonna be a long journey for the three of us. But I'm glad I've met these people. They've made a great change to my life. I'm happy to have them with me.
