Chapter 8 Rage and Depression

Ringmaster comes back to the stage. "Enough about me, I want to introduce our next performer. He is super good at what he does but he is a little too quiet for me. Please welcome Marcel to the stage!" Ringmaster claps his hands slowly as he walks backward to the side stage.

Marcel comes out waving to the crowd excitedly, and smiling. The audience cheers hoots and hollers.

Marcel makes an "oh no face" eyes wide like "I'm in trouble," when he starts patting the air on all sides as if he is trapped in a box. He taps the lid of the box, he pops his head up, and bends back down as if the lid falls back down quickly. He shoves the lid harder and pops up, standing up straight. Marcel grabs onto the imaginary rope to pull himself out of the box. He climbs up and starts swaying back and forth to simulate that he is getting out of the box. When he is high enough, he sways forward and lands in a crouched position. He stands up and wipes his brow, leaning his head back mouth forming "whew." The crowd laughs.

Marcel starts walking down the hypothetical stairs, squatting lower and lower with each step. He sits down on the stage so his body profile is facing the audience. He starts "paddling," swinging his arms back and forth to show the oars moving side-to-side, scooting across the floor. The big tidal wave hits Marcel's body causing him to flail backward. His scared facial expression makes the audience laugh. He brings his body forward into sitting position until he gets knocked back into the current again, falling to the side on his belly, like the kayak has been capsized. Facing the audience, Marcel puckers up his lips like a fish, flaps his arms back and forth in slow motion to show that he is swimming to save his life.

The audience chuckles as he starts flubbing around the stage. Surprisingly enough, the Harriets are actually enjoying the show. They have settled enough to continue watching Marcel's performance

Marcel swims to an imaginary ladder, and starts pulling his body up slowly because the water is heavy. He finally pulls himself up to his feet, so he can climb up the ladder rungs. He finally makes it up the ladder, taking one long step until he is on the imaginary platform. He slightly bends forward, digs through his pockets, moving his hands to start unfolding an object; he puts the object to the side of him, leaning on it with his elbow. He slowly walks as if he is an old man, becoming wobbly and shaky. Marcel bends forward, hunching over as he continues to walk with the cane assisting him.

He manages to walk a few more feet before throwing the cane aside, jolting the audience. He straddles a seat in a squatting position. He puts his hands in the air to show that he is grabbing onto motorcycle handlebars. He kicks the ground start the engine of the motorcycle. While squatting, he drives the vehicle around the stage, bobbing and weaving, zooming in and out of traffic. He ducks down and pops back up as he waves to the audience. He drives his motorcycle off into the darkness of the stage. The audience is in awe and claps.

Ringmaster comes back to the stage and says, "Give a round of applause to the amazing Marcel. I've never seen anyone with so much talent in the miming arts."

The audience claps for Marcel.
