Before Tommy fired the rifle at Jon, Jonathan reached out and grabbed the barrel of the weapon, and quickly punched Tommy. Tommy and Jonathan then wrestled over control of the rifle.
"Go!" Jonathan shouted at Amber, Shauna, and me.
I think what Jonathan did caught the rest of Tommy's crew off guard. It stunned Tommy's group, buying the ladies and me some time to take off and get away from the gang.
I grabbed Shauna and Amber and started to run down the road.
Shauna resisted at first. "What about Jon?"
"Shauna, G-" Jon tried to say to her. He was still struggling with Tommy over control of the rifle.
"Come on!" I yelled. Amber and I grabbed Shauna and the three of us took off away from the others.
"Get them!" I heard Tommy order his crew.
I glanced behind us. Four of Tommy's people gave chase after us, while others swarmed Jon and Tommy.
"Don't worry, you won't get far," One of the gang members taunted us as we were running away.
I had no idea where the three of us were going. I just knew that we had to get away from Tommy's crew that was chasing us. We ran across the street and down a side road with Tommy's gang members hot on our heels.
"You can't get away from us now!" Another one of them shouted.
Tommy's gang was getting closer and closer to us. The only hope we had was to split up and hope that the group took the bait and began following me exclusively, meaning Shauna and Amber could get away.
"Shauna, you and Amber go left. I'll go right," I tried to whisper. Not that easy when you're being chased by a small group of murderous psychopaths, but I didn't want Tommy's gang to hear my plan.
"Okay," Shauna replied to me.
I let go of Shauna. She and Amber took off towards the houses to our left. I got a glimpse of Shauna and Amber before I broke off to my right. Two of Tommy's crew had followed them instead of following me. Shit, they didn't take the bait. But, I had two of Tommy's henchmen I had to deal with my damn self. One man was wearing a long-sleeved, gray shirt and dirty, black pants. He had a green bandanna that covered the lower half of his face. His buddy that was also chasing after me was wearing a ripped up pair of blue jeans and a plain white t-shirt. I couldn't really tell what kind of weapons they had, but it looked like the both of them were wielding knives.
"You fuck, stop running. Quit wasting our time!" One of them shouted at me.
"Not inclined to do that," I replied.
"You're going to suffer."
"Yeah, probably."
I had sprinted for a block and a half, and my legs were really starting to burn. At the end of the road, I spotted a home with a tall, wooden fence. If I could reach it and hop over, I just might be able to lose Tommy's gang members.
As soon as I was within range, I jumped forward and grabbed onto the top of the gate. One of Tommy's crew members tried to grab my right ankle, but I managed to kick him right in the face, knocking him back. His buddy reached out and he tried to grab me, but I flipped over the top of the gate before he could do so.
I hit the ground hard, but I quickly got up. I could hear the gang members climbing up the fence, so I kicked it as hard as I could, hoping to knock both of them from the gate. It worked. The two gang members both fell back down.
"You fucker!" One of them shouted from the opposite side of the gate. I quickly turned around and made for the other yard next door. I hopped over the chain-link fence and I dashed across the yard. I cut in between the two houses and stopped for a second. I badly needed to catch my breath.
