We really had to hurry. Tommy and his thugs could arrive at any moment. My group and Rolie's guys darted into the main house to begin gathering what supplies we could. After that was finished, Bill came up with the idea to hide what was leftover.
"Keep Tommy and his guys from getting this stuff. Should they show up looking for us," said Bill.
Rolie agreed. "Yeah. It's not like we can't come back for it. Let's get what we can now and return later."
So Bill, Rolie, and I took the remaining supplies and moved them to the basement next door. When we were leaving the house, I noticed Andy's body had been moved.
"Hey, Bill? What did you guys do with Andy?" I asked.
Bill pointed to Andy's home. "We didn't have time to dig a grave. Ash and Gina wrapped him up in a sheet, and we placed him in the backyard."
"Okay."
"Do you want to go and say goodbye?"
"Not particularly. I've done enough of that."
"Yeah, I get it."
Rolston then had us all gather in the street. "Okay, you guys stick close and follow us. My guys and I will lead the way."
I looked at Shauna, "You ready?"
"Yeah," Shauna said quietly.
We followed Rolie and his men out of the neighborhood. Shauna and I hung back and talked for a bit.
"Pretty clever of you, Dom. Tricking Tommy like that," Shauna said.
"Thanks," I replied.
Shauna nodded towards Rolie and his men. "How'd you meet them?"
"Well, they pretty much ambushed us while we were on our way to the pharmacy. One of Tommy's men got taken out, and then there was a little hostage situation. Fun!"
"Seriously?"
"Yeah."
"You know we're going to go and look for Amber, right?"
"I had a feeling you'd say that."
We followed Rolie's group back to the main road. But instead of heading in the direction of the pharmacy, we all went the opposite way. As we walked, I couldn't help but look back and see if Tommy and his men were coming up behind us. It was starting to become a reflex for me.
There were quite a bit of wrecked and abandoned vehicles on the section of the road we were traveling down. I tried not to glance inside them. I didn't want to see any more dead bodies that might be trapped inside the cars.
"Look at all of them," Shauna murmured.
"Yeah. Makes sense, though. There are more businesses this way, which means more traffic."
I noticed that Gina was walking along, staring at her feet and hardly looking up at anything.
I moved up next to her. "Stupid question, but how are you holding up?"
"You're right. That is a stupid question," Gina replied.
"Yeah, I know."
"Don't tell me you're sorry about Sandy either."
"I wasn't planning on it. Believe me, I know that crap doesn't help. I just wanted to see how you were doing."
Gina shook her head. "I'm doing like shit. But I don't want to talk about it, and I don't want to talk about losing her either. Alright?"
