"Oh that's not good," I said under my breath.
Amber was standing there, trembling, while Shauna looked like she was trying to reason with the person aiming the shotgun at her.
I didn't know what to do. Run over there and try to help? I might get shot, and I'm not the biggest fan of that. Of course, I didn't want anything to happen to Shauna or Amber either. Whatever was going on over there, I had to get involved and try to diffuse the situation.
I stood up and shouted, "Hey!" To the individual with the shotgun.
They turned and looked at me. In addition to the hood over their head, they had a gray scarf covering the lower half of their face and a pair of goggles over their eyes. The person looked back at Amber and Shauna, then back to me. Then the individual raised their right hand and seemed to wave me over. I didn't want to leave Amber and Shauna and hanging, so I went over there.
I took a deep breath, "Here goes." I walked across the road and began climbing the fence. The person with the shotgun kept watch over me while I walked up to everyone. I was hoping that Amber and Shauna would take off since our shotgun buddy seemed to be occupied with me, but they just stood there.
"Throw that pipe down," The person said when I made it over. Their voice was muffled, due to their face covering, but I could tell it was a female's voice. In addition to their jacket, they were wearing dark blue jeans and black boots, and they were wearing brown leather gloves. She was pretty short, too as both Amber and Shauna seemed to tower over her.
I tossed the pipe at my feet. Amber and Shauna did the same with their weapons. The individual pointed their weapon at me, "Go over to your friends." Boy, this was starting to feel really familiar.
"We're not looking for any kind of problems," I said.
"I tried to tell them that," Shauna said to me.
"Just shut up, all of you," The mystery person ordered.
"Look, you can keep that medical supplies. We'll just-" Amber tried to say before she was cut off.
"I said shut up! I'm trying to think over here," The person with the shotgun shouted. "What does Kendall want me to do? Bring them back to the neighborhood with me?" They said under their breath. It sounded like they were thinking out loud.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Shauna asked them. "We're not going anywhere with you."
"Exactly," I added.
"You'll go wherever I tell you to go," The person with the shotgun told us.
Amber pointed outside of the park, "Well, we better get out of here soon because we're about to have some company."
"What do you mean?" I asked Amber.
"Look, Dom. All of you, take a look."
I glanced around the back of the ambulance. Outside the park and down one of the side streets, I could make out a group of people moving down the middle of the road. It looked like they were headed in our direction. There looked to be ten or so moving down the street.
"Is that Tommy and his group of assholes?" Shauna asked me.
"I don't know, Shauna. I can't tell," I replied. I wasn't about to take any chances in waiting to find out, however. "Let's get back to that house before they see us." I went to pick up my pipe from the ground while Shauna went for the first aid satchel. The person with the shotgun tried to stop Shauna.
"Oh no you don't," They said. "I found that stuff first."
Shauna threw her hands up out of frustration, "Fine, take the damn thing. I don't care. But we're getting out of here."
