"What in the hell was that all about?" Rolie asked when Shauna and I returned.
"Some psycho," Shauna answered. "Your lookout saved our asses.
"Yeah," I added. "We're okay, though."
"Did you find anything interesting in that building?" Rolie inquired.
"Besides that lunatic? No."
"It'll be dark soon. Let's finish up out here and get back inside."
After we were finished reinforcing the gate around the office, we all went back into the building. Rolie had some of his men gather all of the weapons and ammunition they had.
Looking at the small pile of rifles and handguns resting on the countertop didn't necessarily put my mind at ease.
"I thought you'd have more than this," I muttered.
"We're a little low on the ammo side of things as well," Rolie said.
"Oh, finally, some good news."
"Thanks, Dom. That helps," Shauna replied.
"Well, we don't know what kind of arsenal Tommy has either. So we have that going for us," Erin said.
Rolie agreed with her. "Yeah. He could have less than what we have."
"Rolie, I thought you said you and your crew raided a few gun shops?" I asked.
"We did," Rolie answered. "This was all that we managed to grab. Some places were pretty trashed and picked over."
"Shit."
"There's nothing we can do about it now. We really don't have the time to head back out and loot a gun shop, do we?" Shauna asked me.
"No, I don't think so, Shauna."
"All right, so when Tommy gets here, our obstacles out there should spread them out enough," Rolston said.
"Yeah. And we put some of our crack shots out on a few of the rooftops," said Erin.
"If that's the case, that might just do the trick," I told the group. "Especially if they can take out Tommy."
"That's what I was thinking," Rolston responded. "Any volunteers?" A couple of Rolston's men raised their hands. Rolie smiled. "Okay. Perfect."
Rolston, Erin, and Rolie's men headed back outside to look for the best vantage points before it got too dark out there.
Shauna looked at me. "We've done everything we can do."
I nodded. "Yep. Now we just wait. I guess."
"Maybe we should try and relax a bit?" Amber suggested.
"I think so," Shauna said.
We headed back up to our floor. Sitting back and relaxing was a lot easier said than done. I sat down, head up against the wall, and sighed.
Bill walked over, "What's up?"
"What do you mean?"
"I can tell something's wrong, Dom."
I looked around and made sure no one else could hear me. "I'm scared."
"Yeah. I think we all are."
"I know that Tommy will be here. He's gonna kill us."
"Not if Rolie's men have anything to say about it."
"I should have stayed in my damn basement."
"And I should have stayed in my squad car, went and got my wife and kids, and took off to the woods."
