"Wait, leave? And go where?" I asked.
"That aid station at the airport," Rolston answered.
"We don't even know if it's there. I'm sure we all heard the rumors and stories about it. But, it might not even exist. "
Shauna nodded. "Yeah. Some say it's there, and others say it's not."
I looked at Shauna, "I take it you're the one that wants to stay and fight?"
"Oh yeah. I'm tired of running from that fucker."
"I know Gina wants to stay here too."
Gina looked at me. "Damn straight."
"What about you, Dom?" Rolie asked me.
"I have no idea. I don't even know why you're even asking me. I'm not the leader of anything. I'm just trying o survive."
"That's fine. But you're pretty clever. You know what you're doing out there, Dominik. You've made it this far," Rolston said.
I could feel almost everyone in the room staring at me. I was all kinds of uncomfortable. I threw up my hands, "I'm sorry. I don't know what we should do."
"Well, we don't have much time. Tommy can show up here at any moment," said Erin.
"We don't know that for certain," I said. "Yeah, I'm sure that scumbag will show up here sooner or later, though."
"Yeah. Let's operate under the assumption that Tommy will be here," Rolston told all of us.
"Then we have to come up with something," Erin said.
"Why don't we all split up? Go our separate ways?" Ashley suggested.
"What do you mean?"
"We break off into little groups, or go it alone, and we all leave. Tommy can't track all of us down."
An uneasy silence fell over the room, and nobody was saying a word. Ashley's option was a viable one, after all. Shauna, Amber, Bill, Gina, and I could pack up and go, But I did enjoy being part of Rolie's crew.
Finally, Rolston broke the silence, "Hey, I'm staying. We have something to build upon here. I don't want to give this up."
"Well, it is my fault Tommy's pissed. I guess I can leave," I said.
Rolston shook his head. "That's nuts, Dom."
"Yeah, don't even think that," said Shauna.
"Tommy's coming after all of us. We killed one of his guys, Remember?" Rolston asked me,
"Yeah, I do," I replied quietly.
Rolston looked around the room, at his group and our group. "Anybody wants to leave, you can go right ahead. You can take some supplies if you'd like and head out. I won't object."
Nobody moved, and nobody said anything.
Rolie nodded. "Good. Real good."
"Okay, so what do we do?" asked Erin.
"We fortify this place and wait for Tommy to show. At least that's what I'm thinking we should do."
"Yeah. We beef up the fence out there," Bill said.
"Dom, how many people are in Tommy's crew, would you say?" Rolie asked.
I had to think about that for a few moments. "Thirty? Give or take."
"We have about half that."
"Yeah, but Tommy's coming to us. We aren't going to him. We have the element of surprise on our side," Shauna said.
