Andy and I moved the barbed wire fencing aside, and we began our trek.
"What are you thinking, Dom?" Andy inquired. "Where should we go?"
I looked around us. I didn't have much of an idea on where to head, so I asked Andy, "Well, what were you thinking?"
"No clue."
I chuckled. "That's just fantastic."
"Sorry, I don't really know this area."
"Is that why you're mostly on guard duty?"
"Yep."
"Then let's see. I don't want to head back to the pharmacy. Like I really don't."
"After what you and Shauna told us, can't say that I blame you, Dom."
"I'm trying to think of where we should go."
"How about this? We just head down this road, and see what we can find?"
"Sounds good to me."
Before we left, I turned around and I saw Shauna disappear behind the main house with Ashely and Amber in tow. They were going to try and get into a couple of the houses on the road behind ours.
Andy and I began to walk down the street. I tried to keep an eye out for anyone- or any groups- that could be wandering around the area. I didn't want to try and get into any nearby homes, and I was starting to worry about what Shauna and the others might run into should they manage to get inside one of them. But, it was too late to second guess the group's strategy.
"Do you see any ambulances around or anything?" Andy asked me.
"No, the roads around here look pretty empty," I replied.
In fact, there was only one vehicle that I could see that was close to us: a pickup truck that was around five blocks away from where we were. The vehicle was resting on the curb with its parts stripped, and what was left had been burned to a crisp.
"Someone sure tore the hell out of that thing," Andy remarked.
"Damn, I was in the market for some hubcaps," I quipped.
Andy laughed. "I don't think we should head that way. Whoever did that to the truck might still be around."
"Exactly."
After walking some more, and not seeing anything of interest to us, Andy and I stood around in the middle of the street and looked at our surroundings. All we had to work with were some presumably empty homes and not much else.
"I know you said that you didn't want to go back to the pharmacy, Dom..."
"Oh, I do not like where this is going," I interjected.
"Just hear me out, Dom."
"Okay."
"Were there other stores and whatnot in the area near your old job?"
I nodded. "Yeah, of course. The building is at the intersection of two main roads. There's stuff all over the place. I'm not too sure about any other pharmacies though."
"Why don't we try one of the other shops then? Maybe we'll luck out and come across a first aid kit or something like that. Because there's nothing around here. That's the rest of the group's job, anyhow. Get into some of these houses."
I rubbed my forehead and thought about it. I really didn't want to go back to that area. But, I didn't really see the harm in going and just checking things out.
