"What? I asked Shauna. I really could not believe my ears. "Tommy?"
"Not Tommy. A couple of his thugs. I recognized a few of them," Shauna answered me.
I sighed, "Great." I took a seat on the couch in Andy's living room. "So what happened?"
"Five of the bastards showed up," Andy said. "They were looking for Jennifer and Randall."
"What did you do?"
"I hopped down from the bus, and I tried to stop them. Five on one, I didn't have a chance. They managed to get me down and take my gun," Andy hung his head in disappointment. "Sandy ran out first with the shotgun." Andy stopped talking.
Bill took over for Andy. "We heard the commotion out there. Sandy looked out the window, and she panicked when she saw Tommy's group. She grabbed the shotgun and went out to confront them."
Out of nowhere, Gina began wailing.
"Gina, please calm down," Shauna said, trying to comfort Gina as best she could.
"Gina's really torn up about this," I remarked. Yeah, everyone was saddened, there was no doubt about that, but Gina was absolutely devastated.
"Gina and Sandy were together," Andy muttered.
"Oh. Damn," I replied quietly. I tried to change the topic. "How did Tommy's thugs know where to find this place?"
"What?"
"Tommy's gang members. How'd they know about our fortified street here?"
It dawned on Shauna first. "Oh no. Shit no."
"They must've got Amber," I said. "Made her talk."
"We don't know that," Bill replied. "Those guys could have been out there searching and happened upon us. They just showed up and demanded Jennifer and Randall leave with them after they shot Sandy."
"I guess Randall and Jennifer put up a fight?" I asked.
Bill nodded. "They cut Jennifer first. Then Randall."
"Just be glad you didn't see it, Dom," Andy told me.
I didn't want to focus on that. "Okay, so what do we do about Amber? Either she's out there wandering around, or Tommy's crew got to her. Or even another group out there found her."
"Before we do anything, we have to do something about those bodies out there. We should at least try to give them a proper burial," said Andy.
Bill agreed. "Yeah. We do that, then we work on trying to find Amber."
We moved the bodies to the backyard of the main house. Gina and Shauna carried Sandy. Ash and I carried Jennifer while Bill and Andy moved Randall. Ash and Shauna scrounged together some shovels, and we all got to digging, taking turns when one of us got tired.
When the burying was finished, Shauna stayed outside with Gina while the rest of us returned to the main house to discuss our next course of action.
"I'll stay on the front porch. Keep an eye out. If those assholes come back here, I say we take off out of here through the back door," said Andy.
"You got it," Bill replied.
"Keep me updated."
Bill looked at me, "What do you think we should do?"
"Part of me wants to gather our weapons, wait til dark, and then go out and search for Amber," I replied. "Hopefully, we'd have some decent moonlight to help us in our search."
