Damian's POV
I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!!!!! For some reason it feels like I have been given a second chance. She is giving me a chance even if it's just as a friend and there is no way I will screw up.
We are driving to the restaurant for lunch and I am thinking about our earlier conversation. She acts so confident in her professional life but she is equally self conscious about her personal life. I know she has been alone and unloved in her life but not anymore. I will make sure that she feels loved and wanted.
I am sure my parents will love her as much as I do. Noone can hate her. She just has that aura around her that screams how pure and innocent but confidence she is.
We reach the restaurant and order our food.
"So tell me something about you, baby girl!"
"Don't call me that." She snaps at me and I am surprised but why? I mean I always give her different endearments but she never reacted this way. She looks very sad and hurt like she despises this name.
What surprises me more is how easily this name slipped out of my tongue. I always called my Elena a baby girl and I never gave that name to anyone but it just feels natural to call her baby girl.
"Why?"
"Just don't." She says again and she looks like it reminds her of someone. I feel a little hurt to know that she doesn't trust me yet.
"I am sorry but don't call me that and I don't know what to say about me so how about you ask and I answer?" She says softly and just like that she warms up my heart again.
"Fair enough. Since we are starting our friendship now, tell me about your first friend."
Even though she looks sad, she immediately smiles in response. Now I hope it's Oliver, I don't wanna have any competition to win her.
"I met my first and only best friend on my first day of school when I was five. He was three years older than me and some older boy was bullying him when I saw him. He was from a middle class family and looked complete nerd wearing thick glasses and oily hair. He was my nerdy." She chuckles and I also laugh because I also used to look like that and my Elena used to call me nerdy too.
"I have always been hot headed so bit the shit out of that bully and we became instant friends. Since he was in a different grade we wouldn't have classes together but we would always meet each other in the lunch break and mostly after school as well. He was very smart and would always help me with my homework. I got very good at my study because of him. He used to live with his grandparents and his parents used to work here in New York. He always wanted me to be in his classes so I work very hard to get ahead of my study and I can skip some grades. I was 12, when I took all summer classes so I can get in freshman year with him. He didn't know because he was here in New York to spend summer break with his parents and I wanted to surprise him. But he did not come back. I never heard from him or his grandparents after that." Is it a coincidence that her story is just like Elena and mines?
"Do you miss him?" I am really curious now.
"A lot. He was my first and only friend. He was the only one who could handle any anger and would calm me down when even I couldn't do that myself. He was always calm, sensible and a smiling person. On the other hand I was always hot headed, angry and a very quick to react person. I was very close to his grandparents and I wish at least they would have contacted me. I wish he would have come and seen me one last time. Maybe I didn't know where he lived in New York but he knew where I lived in California." She sighs and continues.
" I was there waiting for him for two years but he never came. I would always go to his house after my school to see if he was back but I always found it locked and I gave up after a year. Maybe I was not worth his time and attention or maybe I couldn't be the friend that he wished for or maybe I did something wrong and disappointed him but I will never know. It's been 11 years and I am sure he won't even recognize me even if I am in front of him." It looks like she really loved him and looks very sad and so much in pain while remembering him.
