37 - HE IS THE KING

Damian's POV

"Today we have called you all for a very special reason, actually two reasons. Today I will finally be able to fulfil the promise that my beautiful wife asked for as a wedding gift." Dad says while looking at mom with so much love before continuing his speech.

"The promise was that from the day of our thirtieth wedding anniversary, each minute and each second of my rest of life will belong to her." And the murmur starts around us. Ohh fuck!!! This is exactly what I have been afraid of ever since he moved to this house especially after he told me about his announcement.

"That's right. Today I announce my retirement as a CEO of King Industries and that will start from twentieth august, the day that marks thirty years of my married life. I will also like to take this opportunity to introduce my son, who has been hiding from you all. Well, not exactly but he is just hiding as my son." He chuckles and briefly looks at me while all I do is glare at him.

Couldn't he even give me a heads up before? At least I wouldn't have been this surprised and would have been more prepared because I am sure, media is just going to go crazy. And now I have to be even more careful with my personal life especially about my relationship with Alyssha.

"Sorry son for the surprise but this needs to be done and it's not my fault that I couldn't tell you ahead of time because I completely forgot about my promise and your mom reminded me only yesterday and as a punishment she asked me to do this today." He says laughing which makes me only glare at him and my mom even more but everyone else is just laughing. I mean it's a punishment for me more than him, right?

"That's one hell of a surprise." Amanda says laughing and everyone at the table joins her while my baby girl gives me a worried look but I give her an assuring nod. I love how easily she understands me like no one else. I take her soft hand in mine and give it a kiss.

Even though I am not fully prepared I knew this day would come and it's not like I don't know how the company works because dad has been training me since my high school whenever I got a chance and I have cracked quite a few deals for him and also managed the company's London branch ever since I moved there, which is the second biggest one after New York one. I also have kept a tab on the company's operations secretly so that I can run the company as effectively as my dad when the time comes and only dad and his PA, uncle Daniel knows about it.

"But before I call him upon a stage I would like to tell you all something about him." He glances at me before continuing.

"One thing Sophie and I are sure is that he is the best child any parents could ever ask for. Even though we couldn't spend much time with him during his childhood, I never heard him complaining. We had to send him away from us, to a different city only at the age of eight, the age when he needed us as parents the most. We did it just because we wanted to hide him from the public's eyes and wanted to give him a normal childhood. But he never for once cried and respected our decision. He had to act like a middle class child when he was the only son of the richest man but he only graced his role with a smile and great grades. As a teenager, he never asked for luxurious cars or expensive tours but rather he would prefer to spend time learning business with me whenever he would be free." Dad says emotionally which makes my lips curved in smile and I feel tears in my eyes.

"For sure now he has many expensive cars, luxurious houses and a lifestyle anyone would dream of but as his father, I am very proud to say that he has achieved it all with his hard work only and not by using my name or money. My son, your mom and I are very proud to be called your parents and we could never have asked for a better son for us. We love you and we love to death." He says and I can see tears in his eyes from afar. It's every child's dream to hear such words from the parents and I am happy that he is proud to be my dad.
