A/N: Hey guys. I know many of you don't like Octavian but I got a request on him so... Enjoy! Also, read note at the bottom.
Imagine... being on a quest with Octavian and running into... some certain troubles.
"Don't poke at it!" You shouted.
You were on a quest with your "enemy": Octavian. Why bring your enemy? Reyna had forced you to bring him along. The other demigod that had came had died to a Cyclopes. You really didn't know her, she's only been at Camp Jupiter for a year. Besides, she was in the Fifth Cohort. You and Octavian were in the First Cohort.
Octavian let out a breath and rolled his light blue eyes that reminded you of aquatic waters. "What is it?"
You scolded yourself for almost finding him cute.
"It's a baby, moron." Wasn't it obvious? Perhaps not to Octavian, but to any normal person it's clearly a baby.
Octavian glared at you. You couldn't help but get chills up your spine from the way his eyes gazed into yours.
You put that aside and focused on the abandoned baby.
You and Octavian both hovered above a baby as it laid in a woven basket, with a blanket surrounding it's body. The basket sat at the foot of a Christopher Columbus statue.
Octavian nudged the basket with his foot as the baby happily giggled and sucked its thumb.
"Aww, she likes you," you said to the legacy of Apollo.
A faint shade of pink covered his cheeks. You found him cuter than before. Although, you didn't want to find him cute.
You swear he hates you by the way his behavior is. You used to strongly dislike him, but now... you kind of have feelings for him, but at the same time, you don't. I guess you could say you're frenemies.
"Whatever." He waved you off. He squatted down to the baby, caressing the baby's cheeks.
"Hi." Octavian spoke in a high pitched baby voice. "What's your name?"
You laughed, but then realized what he was doing. Did... he actually... just be kind to someone?
"She isn't able to talk," you rolled your eyes. "She's a baby, remember?"
Octavian sent another glare in your direction.
So far, Octavian has glared at you 68 times and counting during the quest. Yes, you counted.
You squatted down next to him.
Octavian scratched the back of his neck. "What are we going to do with it?"
"It's not an it, Octavian. It's a living human being."
"Same difference," he argued.
You sighed at his stubbornness. "Do we turn the girl into the cops?"
He shook his head. "There's something different about it."
"Baby," you corrected him.
He scoffed, poking at the baby again. Now that he mentioned it, there was something different about the baby.
Her eyes were abnormally grey, it's hair too red to be called natural.
Maybe Octavian was actually right for once.
The two of you stood up. "We should just leave it here," he suggested. "It's strange to find a child in the park abandoned."
"If you haven't noticed," you said. "We're in New York. There are a lot of strange things."
He sent another glare, but the loud creaking of metal interrupted both of you.
You took a few steps back as Christopher Columbus was coming to life.
You face palmed. You've forgotten about the amount of automatons that infested New York.
Christopher Columbus focused his metal eyes on the two of you as he took a slow steady step off the pedestal he stood on. The automaton was at least eight or nine ft tall.
"Run," you told Octavian.
Octavian continued to stare, his eyes fixed on the automaton. You gripped his hand, dragging him along. He eventually came to his senses, running by your side as the automaton chased both of you in the park.
Octavian panted, his strides being longer than yours. "I told you that baby was strange!"
"Well," I huffed, "why didn't you consult the gods with your bears?"
Octavian began to run quicker. You probably struck a nerve.
Soon, you could hear Columbus's large feet crushing the asphalt at every step the automaton took. You were sure it was leaving feet marks in the ground, kind of like when you leave imprints in the sand.
You wished you hadn't looked back. You only looked to see the automaton only closer than it was - only feet way.
Octavian seemed to notice too. You both made a sharp turn and ran into an alley - only to find it at a dead end.
The automaton kept running straight, not being able to stop in time.
Octavian lifted a dumpster's lid. "Get in."
"W-what?" You stared in disgust. You began to think how many maggots and germs had accumulated in there. Ugh, and the smell? You wouldn't get in, even if it meant you were going to die.
"This is a life-or-death, (y/n)," Octavian spoke.
You began to back up against the wall, shaking your head in refusal. You could imagine finding a rat inside. You shivered.
Octavian approached you. You could see the visible shadow looming in the entrance of the alley.
With surprising strength, Octavian lifted you and swiftly tossed you into the dumpster.
You let out a small shriek as you landed on garbage bags. They surrounded you. The stench of garbage finding its way up your nose. Octavian heaved himself inside, the lid shutting behind him.
You began to feel claustrophobic in this confined place. You moved closer to Octavian as you heard the same creaking of metal from earlier.
The only noise besides creaking were the shallow breaths that came from the two of you. You've never run that much in your life - even if you are a demigod. You aren't a fan of running.
You hadn't realized how close you had moved to Octavian. You were basically sitting in his lap. You faced his chest, trying to not breath the foul stench.
You felt your face heat up in embarrassment. You were glad the lid blocked out almost all the light, otherwise Octavian would be able to see you blushing.
Neither of you said anything. But the silence made it quite clear.
From that moment, you figured Octavian had feelings for you too. Otherwise, he would have told you to get off him and fuck off.
You tilted your head back a little to glance at Octavian. You only found his eyes fixed on you.
For the slightest moment, both of you gazed at each other, but you look away.
You doubted Octavian would have the guts to kiss you.
Both of you sat in silence, enjoying the warmth that came from him.
