Imagine . . . living in a black and white world where you can only see colors once you meet your soulmate.
A/n) for the sake of this one-shot, Silena and Clarisse are much older
For as long as you could remember, you could only see in black and white. Everyone shared the same light or dark gray skin, black lips, black hair, and black colored eyes.
You longed to see color. Many demigods residing at Camp Half-Blood could not see color either. It made capture the flag a little difficult for those like you, so Chiron requested that the Aphrodite cabin make new flags with different patterns so both sides could be distinguishable.
Although, there were a few lucky ones that were born with the ability to see color. It was incredibly rare for that to occur. But, from what you're friend Silena has told you, color is unique and beautiful.
Sunsets are her favorite.
She often liked to drag you along with her and stare at the dull, white sun dipping into the black waters.
So slowly . . . the days passed by . . . It turned into weeks, which became months followed by years. You were eventually fifteen.
You lost hope.
Yes, you were fifteen and young but considering that being a demigod meant living a shortened your life.
You knew that your time alive was limited, yet the hopeless romantic inside you wanted to explore.
"Don't worry, (y/n)," your dear friend Silena usually told you. "You'll meet your person eventually."
But all you could hear was your internal clock tick away.
A few months passed by and you returned to Camp Half-Blood for the summer after staying at your (mortal/parent)'s home down in South Carolina for the school year. That morning, you eagerly unpacked and settled down in your cabin.
That evening you enjoyed making s'mores at the campfire and singing songs. You felt happy seeing all your friends again, especially Silena and Clarisse. They stayed at camp year-round unlike you. But still, after a tiring day, you laid awake in your bed at night, tossing and turning in your bed.
You eventually had enough and took a small stroll through camp, noticing it was quiet. You wandered for a while, finding yourself at the beach. You slipped off your sandals and let your toes sink into the cool sand. You approached the water and shivered at how cold it felt on your feet.
It was relaxing for you. You took a seat and lay on your back to look at the black sky full of white stars with fireflies flying around you. It was beautiful . . . You could only imagine how beautiful it must be if only you could see color . . . . . The sound of the waves crashing softly lulled you to sleep . . . . . . .
A screech jolted you awake. "Camper out of bed! Dinner for hungry harpies!"
FUCK, you thought to yourself as your fighting instincts kicked in.
You reached for your sword that you normally kept with you only to remember you left it on your nightstand.
You scrambled to your feet, ready to sprint for your life only to see a slim and taller figure with a dagger charge at the harpy next to you.
He destroyed the monster so effortlessly without breaking a sweat. He faced you in the dark, the light from the moon being your only source of light.
"You should be more careful," the older teen advised.
"I know," you muttered groggily, still trying to process the fact that you could've just been a harpy's midnight snack. "Thank you."
