"I'm slow, and I wasn't as smart as everyone, but once I leave, I'll do my best! And I'll have Little Bunny so I'll be okay." The small blonde girl says as shes stood next to the tall wooden door. She has a small brimmed hat on and the same pink sneakers that she asked you to help her lace on her feet.
"Conny..." Don says while trying to hold back his intense emotions.
"I don't want to leave anymore. I want to stay here!" Conny whines as her eyes brim with tears. You stand with the rest of the children, catching your last glimpses of Conny before she was sent off to be with her new family. Emma is visibly crying while Norman has a frown plastered across his face. You walk up to Conny and crouch over.
"Make sure you take care of yourself, alright? And make sure to write to us. We want to hear all about how much fun you're having" you manage to spit out before embracing Conny in your arms. The small six year old started to whimper before Mom pat her on the back, signaling that its time for her to leave. Conny waved goodbye and hugged everyone and before you knew it, she was walking towards the gate with Mom.
You, Emma, Norman, and Ray walk into the dining room so you can finish cleaning off the table when suddenly you hear a loud voice.
"Conny! You left little bunny!" Emma yells. You rush over to her to see the bunny plush sat on the dining table in the spot where Conny normally sat.
"What should we do? Conny already left" you say as Emma picks up the doll. She looks over to the group, seeing if anyone has any ideas.
"There's still time. I could see from the window that the lights at the gate are still on. Mom isn't back yet either, so I don't think Conny left yet" Ray says as he points his index finger at the window facing the gate.
"Let's hurry, Emma" Norman says and Emma nods in agreement.
"Wait, I want to come too" you say, but you're quickly cut off by someone's hand on your shoulder.
"Don't go Y/n, if Mom gets back before you do, she'll notice you're gone since it'll be a big group" Ray says as you turn around and see his tall figure with his hand on your left shoulder.
"Alright, but give it to Conny and hurry back" you say to Norman and Emma as they give you a quick thumbs up and head out the front door. After they leave, you and Ray call over Gilda and Don to help you clean up in Emma and Normans place. Once you finish, you decide to check in on all of the younger kids. You walk into one of the few bedrooms the house has, this one dedicated to the youngest children. You step into the doorframe but quickly duck back into the hallway and listen to their conversation.
"I miss Conny already" says a little boy with blonde hair. Him and all the other children are sitting on Conny's bed.
"Me too Lani. Now who's going to be the mom when we play house?" a brunette girl says. The children all nod in agreement. You decide not to join them in sulking around, so you walk towards the library instead. You walk in to find that it's almost completely empty.
'hm that's weird. there's normally at least five people in here"
You walk past the tables with a few empty mugs and abandoned books on it. You take the books from the table and put them back on the shelves. You then walk to the very back of the room and search for the book you've hidden in the far left corner of the bookshelf. You graze over the row once just to realize the book isn't there. You furrow your eyebrows and decide to look closer, but the book is still
nowhere to be found."Looking for this?" You hear a low, raspy voice voice say from above. You jump in surprise and look up to see Ray sitting in the loft on top of the library, holding up the forest green book you hid.
"How'd you find it" You ask him as you start to walk over to the wooden ladder that leads up to the loft.
"Eh, I figured you'd hide it from me so I made sure I searched the whole library" He says like it was light work. You climb the ladder and reach the loft. You climb through the hole and stand on the landing.
"You could've just asked me if you could read it" You laugh as you take the book from his hand and sit next to him on the floor.
"You would've said no"
"I would've said yes"
"No you wouldn't have"
"How would you know if you didn't even ask" You ask. He stays silent in an attempt to rest his case. "Okay fine. I probably would've said no" you admit.
"That's why I didn't ask" He says with a slight chuckle "I finished it anyways so you can have it now". You look at him in confusion.
"You already finished it" You mutter in defeat before he reaches over to you and flicks your forehead.
'how'd he finish it in one day? it took me two days to get to where I am and I'm not even half done'
"I stole your book a few days ago, dumbass" He says as you let out a sigh of relief.
