Mud is hard to get off sneakers, at least that's what you've learned from trying to scrub the wet dirt off yours. You've gotten changed into clean clothes but your hair is still wet. The kitchen doesn't have any scrubbers for you to use so you're using a towel to try and get the mud off the white platforms of your shoes.

"Hey Y/n" Emma says cheerfully as she walks into the dinning hall, "Whys your hair all wet? It isn't time to shower yet".

"I was just outside" You say while you look up to her from your seat and smile, "You don't happen to know how to get mud off shoes, do you?".

"Actually I do" Emma says as her face lights up. She walks into the kitchen and comes back with a toothbrush in hand. "Use this to scrub it off". She hands you the toothbrush and you take it but you can't help but think: who's toothbrush was this?

"They're in the library. We should go now" Ray says as he walks by the doorway of the dining hall. He's changed into dry clothes as well but his hair is still wet. You nod and place your shoes on the floor and the toothbrush on the table. You and Emma walk over to Ray and towards the stairs.

"I hope they don't freak out" You say, the three of you start ascending the stairs.

"They probably will. Maybe they'll even cry" Ray replies suggesting that the two won't take the news well. You shrug and continue up the stairs and into the hallway. At the top of the stairs Norman is standing there waiting for you. After joining with the platinum haired boy, the four of you walk down the hallway and towards the library. You stop outside the door and look at each other nervously before Emma reaches forward and twists the door handle.

"Hey Emma, what's up?" Don asks. He's seated across from Gilda at one of the wooden tables.

.

"Human... trafficking? Are you sure?" Don asks while he stands up out of his chair. It doesn't sound like he believes us but Gilda looks like she's seen a ghost. Her skin went pale and her eyes widened, you can hear that her breathing is shaken too.

"Yeah. All of our siblings have been sold off to bad people" Emma says while she looks down at the ground, unable to look at Don and Gilda. You stand against a bookshelf behind Emma and watch as she explains everything. Well, almost everything.

"Pffft" Don spits out with a smile and stars laughing, "There's no way! No way!". Don starts hysterically laughing, suggesting that he doesn't believe Emma.

"But the walls and gate. And why the kids who get adopted never send us letters" Norman says as he steps forward and next to Don.

"Oh, come on. So what's the punch line? What kind of prank is this?" Don asks still in disbelief of what he's being told. You and Norman look at each other and shake your heads while Emma stands in front of Don and Gilda trying to think of what to say. "Uhh, why aren't you guys saying anything?" Don asks as he stops laughing and looks around the room.

"Because it's true." Ray says while he sits on the loft in the library, his legs dangling in the air. Everyone looks up at him and Don looks back at Emma.

"Wait. But Mom?" Don asks.

"She's the one... who sells us to people" Emma spits out, still not being able to make eye contact.

"Huh? There's no way Mom would ever do that to us!" Don says before putting his hands on Emma's shoulders, "Take it back Emma!". Emma looks up from the ground and into his eyes but says nothing.

"Don" Gilda says softly. Everyone including Don and Emma turn their heads to face the green haired girl sitting in the same chair she was when you first walked in, "Emma loves this house and Mom, just as much as the rest of us. Why would she make this up?". Her voice starts breaking as she speaks.

"Gilda" Emma says. Don takes his hands off Emma's shoulders and the room's tension seems to relax.

"And to tell you the truth, I did think it was weird. The night that Conny left... Emma and Norman went to the gate" Gilda starts. She keeps her hands on the table in front of her trying to stay calm.

"Wait, you did?" Don asks turning to Norman for an answer.

"Yeah. Conny left little Bunny" Norman explains.

"Even if you broke the rules the both of you would eventually come clean about it and apologize, and everything would go back to normal" She starts before her voice breaks even more and tears start to brim her eyes, "But you haven't done that yet". Emma widens her eyes at how observant Gilda is.

"Emma, I wanted to ask about it but I was too scared to bring it up" She continues before taking a deep breath and starting to cry. She throws her head into her hands and sobs as you walk over to her.

"Gilda, please don't cry. We're sorry we made you worry" You say as you put your hand on her back and rub it trying to comfort her.

"Did you see it happen? Did you see Conny being sold off to the bad people" Gilda cries. You look up at Emma and Norman who stand there thinking of what to say.

"Yeah" Norman responds, "But we didn't make it in time".

"Okay but Conny is safe, right?" Don asks expecting a specific answer.

"I don't know." Norman replies calmly. If you would expect anyone to be calm in a situation like this, it would be Norman.

"Impossible..." Don says as he turns away from the group with wide eyes, "This can't be real". Tears start to stream down his cheeks while Gilda continues crying as well.

"I don't know if this proves much, but Y/n and Ray have been spending the last few days looking at everyone's test scores" Norman says as he holds up a sheet of paper.

"Our test scores?" Don and Gilda ask in unison.

"According to this," Norman starts as he hands Gilda the paper and Don walks over to her to read it, "Kids over six are adopted in order of lowest scores first. Isn't that weird?".

"So not just Conny's scores but... Hao and Ceddy" Don says in shock as he reads the paper.

"You're right Norman" Gilda admits.

"Don, Gilda." Emma says making everyone turn their attention to her, "Let's all escape from here and go help Conny and the others. We can do it if we work together! Please, help us". Emma steps closer to Don and Gilda. The two hesitate for a moment but then nod in agreement.

"Alright, we'll talk about the plan more later." You say as you tilt your head towards the door. It's almost time for bed and you want to make sure everyone is able to get some sleep. The six of you walk out of the library, Gilda and Don walk down the hallway while you, Ray, Norman, and Emma stand outside the library.

"I'm glad we told them. They'll definitely be of good use to help us" Emma says. You nod and wave your hand signaling for her to follow you into your bedroom for bed. The two of you smile and you turn your head back and wave goodbye to the boys who stay in place before turning back around and walking down the dimly lit hallway. You walk into the bedroom that you share with most of the older kids and see Gilda sitting on her bed. You look at Emma and nod knowing what you're about to do.

.

"This is great you guys! It's been a while since we talked like this" Gilda says. The three of you are sitting on her bed as smaller children run around the room.

"It's weird right? Even though we're together every day" Emma replies. You've never really talked to Gilda in the past but she seems really soft and gentile.

"Let's keep it this way, alright? Together forever" Gilda says looking at you and then at Emma with a smile. She puts her hand in the middle of the circle followed by you putting your hand on top of hers and Emma doing the same.

"Yeah, together" You say with a smile.
