January 14, 2034
You cross off that day's box on the calendar on the wall. It's about to be midnight and about to be Ray's 16th birthday.
"Y/n" Emma whispers as she gets out of her bed.
"Hm?" You hum as you put down the marker on your nightstand and get down from your toes.
"I need you to do something for me" She asks.
"Okay, what is it?" You ask.
"We're escaping. Tonight." Emma explains.
"What? But I thought we had more time?" You say in surprise before Emma cups your mouth so you stay quiet.
"Don't ask questions. Just do what I'm about to tell you, okay?" Emma asks. You nod and she takes her hand off your mouth, "Wake up everyone and tell the ones in this bedroom and the one next to ours to get their bags and exit the house through the back door. When you all get outside wait there for me and Ray".
"Wait, you and Ray? Why aren't you guys coming with us? And what bags?" You ask. You don't want to escape without them, especially since they're the only people keeping you sane.
"We're coming too don't worry, we just have to handle something first. And just tell them what I told you to, they'll know what to do" She says before walking into the hallway and disappearing. You sigh and shake everyone awake in their beds, telling them to wake up.
"Okay guys. Emma said for you guys to get your bags and we'll meet outside behind the house. Hurry as fast as you can" You explain before going into the bedroom next to yours and doing the same. You then put on your sneakers and sweater and go out the back door. To your surprise, Don and Gilda are already there.
"Don, Gilda, what's going on?" You ask.
"Emma had everyone pack bags for when we escaped. We packed you one too, here" Gilda says as she hands you a backpack. As she talks, large groups of children run out of the house and surround you three, waiting for further direction.
"Really? Emma set everything up?" You ask.
"Yep! She couldn't get Ray to help her because he didn't really want to escape" Don states. Your heart drops down to your stomach.
"What?" You ask.
"Look at the house!" A child screams. You turn around and see a flame start to grow from the dining hall.
"Is this part of the plan?" You ask in fear. Gilda nods and shortly after you see Ray and Emma run out of the house clutching their ears.
"Anna, do you have the kit ready?" Don asks and the blonde girl nods. She rushes over to Emma and Ray and you do too.
"Y/n, help me stop the bleeding" She says as she hands you some gauge and tape. You take it from her and use the gauge to soak up the blood from Emma's ear.
"Don't tell me you-" You start as you continue to soak up the blood.
"We had to" Emma says as you tape a piece of gauge to her ear to keep it in place.
"Alright you're done. Anna, are you?" You ask.
"All done" She says as she puts the supplies back in the medical kit.
"Okay, time to go. Let's head for the wall!" Emma says before the smaller children cheer. Emma then starts running and everyone else follows. You stay frozen in confusion and look over at Ray, who looks just as confused.
Did he not know about the plan? If he didn't, then what did him and Emma have to handle?
You wave your hand, signaling him to follow you before running after the group. After a minute, you and Ray finally catch up with the rally of children.
