Norman's POV:
"Take this suitcase and go pack your things" Mom says as she hands me a medium sized suitcase."Sure thing" I say with a fake smile. I take it from her hand and walk up the stairs and into my empty bedroom. No usual children playing, no Ray, no Emma, no Y/n. I place the suitcase onto my bed and flip the locks, spreading it open. I sigh and think to myself before opening one of the drawers of my nightstand. I take out a notebook and place it in the suitcase before closing the drawer and moving on. I open and close the drawers one by one until I stumble upon the last drawer. I open it and instead of it being empty like the others, it had two plastic cups tied together with string tying them together. I smile to myself and take the cups from the drawer, holding them in my hands and remembering the memories attached.
"Another cold, no snowball fights for you" Mom says as she examines the thermometer. I lay in bed with a towel over my forehead to keep me cool as my fever blazes through my body. She gets up from her seat and walks out of the room.
"We can't play with Norman?" Emma asks from behind the door.
"Not until he gets better. Which means I don't want any of you in the infirmary for a while, alright?" Mom explains.
"Yes Mom" Everyone says in unison. Their voices are muffled but clear enough that I can understand what's being said. I look up at the clock and try to read the time, but I can't see clearly. When I tilt my head back down, I see a piece of orange hair stick up from the side of my bed.
"Boo!" Emma yells as she jumps up with a smile.
"E-Emma!" I say in surprise.
"I came to visit!" She says.
"Yeah but Mom said not to!" I say before coughing.
"I know she did, but you're all by yourself when you get sick. I thought you might be lonely!" She explains with a large smile. I feel my cheeks burn red.
"I'll talk so you don't have to, is that okay?" Emma asks as she sits on the stool to the left of me.
"You can't stay here, you'll catch my cold" I plead.
"That isn't true" Emma says, "I was told I'll never ever get sick!".
"Emma! When did you sneak in?" Mom says as she walks in the door with a new towel, "Careful or you'll get sick too".
"Don't worry Mom! Ray said I'd be fine!" Emma exclaims proudly.
"Ray?" Mom asks. I turn my vision from Emma to Mom and see Ray and Y/n standing in the hallway.
"This book said that idiots don't get sick" He explains with a book in hand as the smaller girl behind him giggles. Mom sighs and takes Emma's hand.
"Regardless, you can't be in here Emma. You can play with him once he's better. Do you understand?" Mom says as she walks Emma into the hallway to join the two other children.
"Yes" Emma huffs before Mom closes the door. I turn my body and look out the window, the voices of other kids come from outside. I flutter my eyes closed before I see a strand of orange hair appear yet again next to my bed.
"I'm back!" Emma says with a smile, making me jump and cough.
"Emma you can't be..." I start.
"Here. For you!" Emma says as she places an object next to my pillow.
"A cup?" I ask as I examine it. It's a normal white plastic cup but it has a small hole in the bottom with some string through it.
"Y/n taught me how to make it! Isn't it cool" Emma says.
"Oh Emma~" Mom says from behind the girl. She picks her up and holds her upside down, "You really don't know when to give up, do you?".
"She said we'd be able to talk using these!" Emma says as she struggles to escape Mom's grasp. She carries her out and places her into the hallway, shutting the door behind her. I put the cup to my ear and feel the string pull.
"Hello? Are you there?" Emma's muffled voice says through the string phone, "Can you hear me?".
"Yeah, loud and clear" I respond.
"Y/n! It worked!" Emma says to the other girl.
"Hey! I wanna talk to Norman now!" Y/n says in the distance.
"Now we can talk even though we're out here! Hooray!" Emma yells.
"You know, if you keep yelling like that you won't even need the string phone" Ray says to Emma.
"Oh, you're right" Emma laughs before I join her in laughing through the phone.
The door creaks open behind me and snaps me out of my daze. I turn and see Don and Gilda enter the room. I smile and put the string phone into my suitcase before closing it.
